How do you guys meet new friends?

You found someone to draw comics with you?? I want to do this ;_;

If you are like me and unable to often leave your house (this worse in the winter months because wheelchairs and Canadian snow do not mix well) Google Hangouts are pretty nice for finding other artists to draw with online, I jump in those all the time. We'll just all be talking, reading comic, drawing, gaming, or you know just hanging out in general. Most of the time the ones who are drawing screen share on so you can see what they are working on. Much good times to be had, and a lots of artist find that they're more productive when screen sharing or streaming (not all of them though, sometimes it can be a pretty big distraction for some artists and instead of working with everyone they end up not being able to draw anything at all)

Still a pretty easy way to meet/hangout with/draw with other artists.

I went to school for art and at first when I'd have to talk about it in class I'd get really embarrassed and clam up, but now I'm used to it and I like talking to people about my work and art in general. I'm not even shy about showing strangers my sketchbook anymore hahah

This other forum I visit has a call for meetup based on the area, from time to time. The threads already exist for major areas (such as NorCal, NYC, Portland) and whenever someone feels like it's been too long since the last time, they post to see if anyone else has time. Maybe we could do the same on Tapastic? Might be slightly awkward, though, if the meeting members aren't already familiar with each other's comic.

I've met my closest friend as a result of an incident with a former friend.
Some of my friends, I've met on a forum for old LEGO games.
I've made new friends right here on Tapastic.
As for outside the internet, I don't have many friends. Its just very difficult, considering I have issues controlling my emotions, plus I've lived a rough life which led me to become wary of people I meet, regardless of if I know them or not.

we are all artist and often times they are friendly. I take figure drawing workshops and it's always a great ice breaker to just observe or compliment what they are working on and build from there. Some people gladly wear what they love on their clothes or as an accessory so if you see someone wearing your favorite tv show don't be ashamed to compliment it and also start the conversation of saying that you too enjoy it.

For me it tends to start with either they like my art or I like their art...or both. Sometimes through other circumstances.

It's so hard to meet new people, especially in comics because... it's like, if you're writing a series or working on the details of a new one, it takes up all your spare time! But it's always awesome to take a break and grab some info on what someone else is working on. I just jump in with a few kind words about what I see and like about their work -- being positive is fun and makes it so easy to break the ice!

Seriously though, I make friends in the weirdest of ways.
I don't really "try" to make friends, because that never really works out for me. it just sorta happens.
Although going on a website called "Iscribble" helps alot, if you want art friends. I've now got alot of people on there calling me their "Senpai" without even trying. SO it's all good.

This is just my way of making friends.

I don't really have any art friends unfortunately but one but he lives in the UK and I live in the states so that's just a cluster of time zones. I want to meet some new art friends who I can share, talk, and have fun with since it's something I love to do and plus we're artist so getting along shouldn't be too bad.

It works out, but sometimes one meetup can take weeks to organize. Not because there's a lot of work required to organize one (there REALLY isn't), but because a lot of the members are working adults. It can be hard finding one day on which everyone's free.

I went to an art school, but it was for 3D modeling. So I still had to take life drawing and stuff, but I wasn't anywhere near as good as most of the students there who WERE actual artists, so it was always horrifying showing my work haha >_< I am still not comfortable showing sketchbooks and stuff. But I'm trying to get better. Posting my webcomic online is actually helping alot : )
And you draw really cute! I don't see you being self-conscious at all. Your style is so strong already : 0

Honestly, I've met the most amount of buddies by being upset that there isn't an easier way to meet people and proactively finding ways to fix that. Organizing events and meet ups about your favorite things is the fastest way to find a bunch of people who are into what you're into, and I happen to enjoy event planning, so that works for me. I've met some really cool people since moving to the east coast by just hosting Sailor Moon meetups or "hey do you like tea, let's go get afternoon tea together" type things.

That being said, WHO'S IN THE NYC AREA? Let's have a comic creation party!

IRL : Due to some personal issues (and because children in junior high are not exactly what you can call "mature") I didn't have so much friends and I didn't really make a lot since then. But when I did, it was thanks to drawing or leasures I practiced (archery, music instrument).

Online : I met a lot of people on MMORPG's, and still talk to some of them when I'm not on holiday (since I can't play using school's network ^w^). I talked to some people on Tapastic, but I couldn't say I made friends already. Maybe someday? õuõ

I retain a small but reliable cluster of friends through my previous college. Interestingly, none of my friends are within walking distance. It's really because I don't have anything to relate to with the people in my neighborhood.

You poor buddy I know it's hard, but sometimes the best thing to do is just talk to strangers. Even the best of friends start out as someone you don't know. Then it's good to find out if you share similar interests, because that instantly forms a bond. It doesn't have to be anything big, maybe you both just enjoy comics or a nice cup of coffee!

I made a bunch of good friends by attending group dance classes. But then most of them stopped dancing, and now we never see each other. I guess I could go to more classes...
