How do you handle blood in your comics?

Hey everyone! A quick question for the community.

I'm about to post a page in a couple of days that features some blood. I've already indicated in my series overview and in an author's note that this series does occasionally feature blood. Should I include a trigger warning and/or label it a 'Mature' episode anyway? How do you guys handle this?

I think it depends on the situation around the blood. Just a little cut or a busted lip? You're probably fine. Pool of blood on the floor? Probably fine. More serious injuries and violence? Probably a mature filter. And of course over the top violence and gore isn't allowed at all.

I'd argue that you got flagged for nudity?? I mean, yes, there's a lot of decapitation and technically, it's sorta censored since there's no entrails on the sliced up torsos.. But I also see naughty bits, and idk, people seem to have the idea that that's less acceptable somehow

I also have no idea how flagging works btw, are you told what you get flagged for?

Um, so yeah. I guess that could be your metric for now. Don't go for Berserk levels of gore, not even a Mature rating will keep an episode up.

@simplykit , did you manage to keep it up? I'd imagine you had to do a lot of censoring

Is your comic in color or b/w?

Do you also show other graphic stuff? Like guts, body mutilation, or body horror?

If it is not in color and not too graphic, you might be able to get away without a Mature rating. But you can put a warning in the description if you want.

Thanks for your questions! My comic is in 'selective color', so mostly greyscale with color drawing attention to specific things - like the upcoming blood. Definitely not graphic in any way - I don't do violence for the sake of violence. Just a battle wound!

I put a mature tag on all of the updates with blood.
The most gore I've had is a bad cut on the head. (Blood dripping down the character's head)

I was emailed by webtoon because of one panel on my series about the blood~ they temporary delete that particular episode because of it~ so what I did is change blood color to color black or hatch~

I haven't actually shown blood yet in my comic yet. I'm sure I will at some point. But it's not really a part of the feel of Runner to be gratuitous about it. I won't censor it or anything and there will be a couple tone shifts so there might be some better opportunities to show some things like it. But it's not really in the immediate plan and that's most of what I think about

I wouldn't label it mature just because a character has a little bit of blood on them. I would only put a mature label on something if there is gore.
