How Do You Handle Sequels?

I just started releasing the second book of my series, and I've noticed that some new readers are getting confused and reading the second book before the first one. The second book has a lot of spoilers about the ending of the first book, so the books should really be read in order. How do you all usually handle second, third, fourth books in a series? Do you keep all of the books in one listing? If so, how do you let your readers know they are moving on to a new book? Do you release them as separate books? I could really use some pointers! Thank you!

You can try putting "sequel" or "2nd" as an indicator for the readers, but at the end of the day people will still get those mixed up. I've seen people do it with shows and movies. If you've already done everything you can to prevent it, then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

In the past I've published sequels separately and had the same problem. For Tapas, I think it might be better to keep it all as one book and maybe label the start of the second book. You could also just call it season two, since that's a concept that's more popular on Tapas. Maybe finish the first book and then follow the last chapter with an episode that shows a new cover and marks the start of the second part. It would make it easier for readers to follow the right order and avoid spoilers and you lower the risk of losing a part of your audience who might miss the release of a second book.

Okay so when I was a kid I would go to the library then get annoyed by all the v||| (don't have the symbol on my keyboard) as I didn't understand them at the time.
The best way, even if less sparkly or fancy is to 1) not make the name completely different from the first, 2) add Sequel: insert title here
In your old one, link people in comments or firect them to the sequel. In your 2nd book, at a comment and description on the first chapter its a 2nd book.

If the issue persists? Edit your FIRST chapter put a small one liner that this is a sequel to your other books title, put it in bold, then under it add a fancy paragraph seperater line or ***** then a couple spaces but where you can still read the very start of your actual chapter without scrolling. This should alleviate your troubles!

For serialized webnovels, it's highly recommended to keep books under one title (unless wattpad which only allows 200 chapters under 1 cover; Tapas doesnt have a limit). For example, all The Beginning After the End 12 seasons were under one cover with like, 1.5k episodes.

It's been an issue on webnovel platforms where readers mix them up unless it's clearly stated in the title, like "Book 2" or something. Many of the subs don't follow over to the separate books, too. I've seen Book 1 do really well with hundreds of thousands of views and 5k subs, for example, and only 800 subbed to Book 2. It's a risk to separate them compared to traditionally published novels which will have physical copies. (If you ever print your books, then separate them).

Plus, it's beneficial to keep your seasons, books, parts, etc under one title because you can keep it serialized for a long time which Tapas likes. More engagement for the same title! To separate seasons/sequels depends on your preference. I put [S1] in the chapter title to signify season 1. Then I put [Season 1 ending] at the end of the last chapter and [Season 2] at the beginning when book 2 starts. Others add an illustration and/or extra chapter exclaiming Book 2.

I just use a different title and most readers pick that up immediately because it's obviously a more recent work and the art is better.

AngHell dela Blackpill is a sequel/spinoff to MAG-ISA. That's clear in the description section and same FL. But it's designed in such a way that it can be stand alone in itself.

When scenes happen where cross referencing is needed, flashback panels are simply added

Interesting topic - for me too, since I´ve just started to work on a sequel too. Considering that the sequel will take place 2 years after the events of the first story and the tone will be different, I´ll have to publish it as a separate novel.
1st story is Black Fang
Sequel: Black Fang II: Bloodlines
I hope this will do the trick...

Yeah, I'd think a subtitle (e.g., "Book II of the Tales of Gondor") and/or hints in the opening paragraphs that there's a whole book taking place before the one the reader holds.

I did revised book descriptions, and when that didn't seem to help, I edited my covers with book numbers under the titles.
