So I'm not totally up to date with the youtube art community and at the moment I'm still learning how to efficiently record, edit footage, and upload onto youtube. The last time I watched a youtube tutorial video was ages ago so if there's a faster/easier way to do this I would love to know.

For an example of what I make: https://youtu.be/aLt3MR8EhOc2 Anywho, this is my process:
1. I use OBS to record my footage. I draw on a desktop so I use OBS to record my screen.

2. I use After Effects to import and edit the footage
The way I do it is I import the videos and create compositions for each of the footage file where the only thing I edit is where I want that chunk to start and end. After that I make a composition called Total Footage where I highlight in order all the footage compositions and rightclick->create composition where it asks me to create a single sequenced composition with the selected ones.

3. I create a final composition where I add in the music and text.

I don't do anything fancy, I add the song and Time Remap the total footage composition to fit the length of the song and also add a fade out at the end of the footage using the Opacity properties of the footage composition. The last thing I do is add a string of text at the end of the video saying thanks and do the same thing as the last step to fade it in using the opacity property.

4. I drag the final composition to the render queue and export the video as a quicktime file.

After setting the export to these settings and set the export file and location I click on render.

5. Upload that file on youtube. These are the last steps, add credit to the music, thumbnail, description.

So that's my process and like I said this could be the most cumbersome way to go about it. But it's the way I've kinda fumbled my way into doing it.

What about you youtube peeps, how do you all do it?

I don't do it as much as I used to, but when I did, I used Camtasia, which is a one stop shop screen recorder and video editor.

Same as above, I don't record me drawing as much as before, but I usually use wondershare filmora. I think that is a very intuitive program and you can edited them very easily.
but thank you for this step-by-step, without doubt it would be very useful :>

When I remember to do them, I record the progress with OBS and then edit it on Vegas. I've used Vegas for years now, so it's really simple for me to use. The only down side is that most people would have a hard time coming by it for a low price. I got lucky and bought it on a humble bundle for like 20 dollars. haha. (and it was the professional full version too)

I want to record my drawings, really should download some software for it. Is OBS any good?

OBS is probably the best screen recorder you can get for free. I've never had any issues with it, and it has really good user friendly settings.

oh wow, i always just speed up with movie maker?
i have vegas (and used to have after effects) but it seems like an overqualified program for just speeding up something lol

Mmmm, well Movie Maker doesn't come on computers by default anymore, and I always have Vegas, so I guess I never really thought about it. haha. I honestly run into more issues using MM than Vegas anyway...xD

if that's so I should give it a try, I don't much like having to export and switch to another program to make a complete video. Looking at the pricing it looks like almost the same price as a year of the adobe creative suite subscription, so that's not terribly bad. Especially if I make use of it beyond just simple timelapse videos lol.

I've never tried it, but from what I've seen and heard Vegas is like a great software for video editing. It would be worth it to keep an eye out for a sale on it~

I definitely agree with you on how after effects is a bit op for doing timelapse videos. I didn't even think movie maker was still a supported thing to be honest.

Honestly the only reason I stuck around with aftereffects is because with it being from adobe I could kind of get around it since it still handles similar to other adobe apps.
