How do you title your comic?

For some reason, I find it really hard to title my comic... Can any of you comic creators out there give me some suggestions? All suggestions are appreciated!! Thanks!

I title my comic for what it is about, my MC name Mukhtar.

If it is about the main character then add his/her name, Like many superhero comics such as Spiderman and batman.

If it is about an adventure of the world, then use the name of the world you build like middle earth.

If it is a group, then use the name of the company like the expendables.

For me, it makes sense that the title involves the focus of the story whether it is about the characters, or the world etc.

Pretty much what @faisalhussein394 said. It can be a important character, item, or location. Or it can be based an important theme of the story.

I wrote down a list of every word related to my comic and what it's about I could think of. At one point I wrote the word "Errant" because of the idea of a Knight Errant, and realised that on its own, since the word "Errant" can mean "gone astray" or "gone wrong", and since a single word title feels very modern, it fit a story about dysfunctional knights in a modern setting pretty well!

The other thing I advise everyone to do is to check two things:

1. Search the name on Tapas to make sure nothing else already has that title.
2. Search the name on Google to make sure no other well known site, organisation or piece of media, be it a webcomic, novel, movie or videogame, already has that title.

I know it's annoying, but seriously, it will help you get found and make it a lot easier if you want to have a website or social media with good usernames for your series.

I'll admit I totally winged Rise of the Heroes. It has a bit of a history. The first version of the webcomic (which was only on webtoon at the time) was named Sorcerer's Rise (which was because the main character, a sorcerer called Andrew, rises up to defeat the evil Overlord in that comic).
However, I did not use online storage or google drive or whatever works at all, and I am also a bit of a computer noob. So when my laptop crashed I lost all the files. Coupled with no readers besides a chronic hate comment machine I lost interest and deleted it.

When I started my current one, I changed the name to Rise of the Heroes because at the time I felt like not using the same name. I do slightly prefer Sorcerer's Rise since the current one sounds a bit generic xd but it does focus more on all the characters rather than Andrew only

Now for my planned comic I've put more thought in it, I wanted the title to reflect the main premise, that being the main character starting over from scratch to reclaim her status as royalty. I did ask around on the forums for title suggestions, and I think it was @darthmongoose who suggested the title Square One in the end.

I was going to suggest keeping it brief, unless you have a really good title that's long (I mean, I do like the title How to Train Your Dragon).

But seriously, those long titles are just too much for me to remember -_- But I guess if you like long titles, to each their own. I personally prefer brevity in titles.

Obviously, this is just my opinion.

I think everyone else had better suggestions than me, so I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, I agree with @darthmongoose about the google thing. I remember when I launched my scrapped comic DRGN back in 2019, I had to change it after years of keeping that name because I found out that "DRGN" was also chosen as the name of some type of Blockhain Crpyto thing back in 2018-2019...

Haha, but seriously though, I agree that long titles can be hard to memorise :'D I think you should at least have a pronounceable/cromulent abbreviation, in that case :]

I guess I personally wouldn't have changed my title over that, at least if I really liked it a lot. Title clash is only a big deal for me if the other thing is either really well-knows, or in the same medium as the thing I'm making (e.g. a webcomic when I'm considering that title for my webcomic)

It all deepens of type comic your doing. genera, style etc.
one of my comics is named after his job that is made up fantasy one. my other comic is a comedy comic strip named after the base premise of the story. the third one is a one panel stand alone joke, the name is just a description of the style of thought behind it.
you need to find the core of your comic. I used manga naming seance (English translation) as a base.
take a piece of paper and write them there or use an element from the comics in the name as a design element. some time when you see it in front of you it's gives you a clear look.

My recs...

Have something that describe your story in some way. The easiest it just using a character's name or a concept of the story (like Star Wars) but you could also sort of more creative or clever about it like Legally Blonde.

I generally recommend staying away from vague single word titles mostly because they have become super common in movies that searching for a smaller comic with the same name might be difficult. For example, if you put "Nope" in Google, you get the movie. So if you wanted to have that word in your title, I would recommend adding a few more words to it.

I think also having a title that is short or easy to remember or say/type is also important. It helps people be able to recommend it. This also goes for non-letters in the title. Like calling something "Star☆Land" instead of just "☆Land". Similarly I always found xxxHolic to be a dumb title because the xxx is silent yet most people will try to pronounce them. Or how ".hack//Sign" is pronounced "Dot hack sign".
