Hmm. Honestly, I don't only abhor Thanos, but kinda hate the Russos for making the narrative in Infinity War so... enticing for many people.
Spoilers for Infinity War + character death(s):
Thanos is an abuser. He is a mass murderer. His delusion of a "better" world would, by all rights, not even allow him to really feel love, but yet the narrative in Infinity War tried to sell us that he loooves Gamora because that's the only way to get the Soul Stone. And then he throws her off the cliff. Yeah right. So much love.
Wait, let me phrase that differently. Of course people with delusions of grandeur can still feel something that they believe is love. But he abused Gamora and Nebula to a degree where Gamora STILL struggles with her wounds. The movie killing her off like that just made me mad, and I had no sympathy for Thanos whatsoever. I just wanted to see him burn after that. As for the Russos? Good job slapping abuse victims in the face with that scene, I felt real good afterwards with my emotionally absent and manipulative father.
I get why many people like him as a character, find him interesting. Villains do have this kinda, uh, magic about them. But when someone tells me they honestly feel sympathetic for him, I run lol; Thanos shows so many red flags of abuse and whatnot that I physically can't like him nor really trust people who actually do (his person, not the concept). Good acting, though.
The MCU was more or less dead to me after that abhorrent movie, too. xD Too many people written out of character, developments from former movies ignored etc. ... and then Thanos as icing on the cake? No thank you.
I would've MUCH preferred this version of Thanos. (Also funny because he fails and Deadpool marries her lmao)
