oh wow.
uh 5 months?
I was sure it had taken longer than that - time flies I guess/
All that said it's gonna be different for everybody. Something that helped me is I released a minicomic a couple months before my main comic was launched, and then before that I had made some connections here in the community so there was a little bit of hype for it too :V
Growing 'organically' (which is to say, via relying on the sites algorithms) IMHO is a HUGE trap, and when I can I try to find other ways of finding new readers. For example I make one-sheet zines and minicomics and print them and distribute them around in meatspace. I've also made a bit of money from selling them! Collaborating with peers is a good way too (such as making guest comics or fan-art) because it sorta blends your audiences together.
EDIT: May as well talk about it here too since its sorta on topic - posting in self-promo threads is also not great, with the exception of ones like "share your horror/romance/action/sci-fi comic" or, my favorite, the "share your latest page" threads. If you use twitter artist support threads are good too, but I would stick to the smaller ones or ones that are similarly filtered as the self-promo threads I was talking about.
Good luck reaching your first 100!
