Of course webtoon has the right to do favoritism in their site but for them to lie they're doing all this to promote and help everyone is bullsh*t at the highest level. At least Tapas isn't lying and saying they help everyone. Even if we get no views or subs on here, we all know Tapas isn't gonna promote us bcoz they've always being clear about that from the very beginning.

Webtoon on the other hand is being a hypocrite about this. Even lying they pick feature comics based on 70% popularity and then the comic they want who has no popularity are boosted over month to beat everyone to top and get featured. I have no problem if they stop being hypocrites and just be honest by saying we pick featured comic based on our taste. Even their ranking is belittling good titles because it puts a number on it when it's all fake and manipulated by them. I'm all for a fair ranking system where comics get on there fairly and we can trust the ranking. why do a ranking when it's already bias and controlled? The only thing the ranking is doing isn't help everyone it's to make their chosen comics to appear as the best and unbeatable giants by belittling others. At least tapas isn't putting a number to people's comic.

This isn't about complaints, it's about exposing the hypocrisy of webtoon. If people thinks differently it's all right, we all have different opinions.

There is indeed no need for a fight here, everyone is entitle to have their opinion. It's ok to disagree.

I'm still going to expose webtoon's hypocrisy on here anyway whether anyone agrees or not.

You should know how it feels to get to the top 30 or top 5 by genres but you always get kicked by favorite/bias webtoon, fake popularity.

My major point in all this is that Tapas does the same things. And while you all might think, "Oh, well, they never told us this was for the small creators, so it is okay!" I disagree. These features have existed for a long time on Tapas (back when it was Tapastic), and at the beginning, I'm sure that was the point here as well. I hold both companies to the same standards.

If you haven't noticed, Romance gets a lot of coverage here too. I've also noticed that more people create romance comics, and that the Romance genre section on both sites is particularly flooded, more so than even the Fantasy section. (My comic being Fantasy-Romance is proof of this. It gets buried waaaaay faster in the Romance section on Webtoon.) Keeping that in mind, it makes sense that Romance is represented more frequently in the Spotlight.

Anyway, I don't know why you said it doesn't affect me. It clearly does, as I am a Discover creator there. I'm not trying to say these things don't exist. All I'm saying is to look at things from all sides, if possible. (The only thing I'm really skeptical about is when people say that Webtoon is fudging the PV numbers. I think there are far too many factors at play to make that assumption, as well as doubting that the staff has enough time to go in and change the stats like that as opposed to just letting the site's automatic analytics do its job.)

There's a lot of comics that were very popular on their own a year ago then went straight to page 7+ just because they were hated by Line. The hated comics usually have more than 50k+ and trashed to be left with comics of 10k+.

People complain about Tapas because this is the Tapas forums, lol. They want to be heard. Again, I'm not saying that there aren't problems on Webtoon, but I personally have had more issues getting seen here than on Webtoon. (Also, I know that there are more creators here, so that might be partially why.)

Honestly I don't see anyone disagreeing with you, I think most people agree with you infact. Tapas is definitely worse, but the topic of this thread is about LINE webtoon... so people are complaining about that.

Whether or not there are stat manipulations and shenanigans going on, I don't think anyone can really say for sure, but I don't see what's wrong with people discussing it.

I've seen webtoon's hatred towards these titles to name a few: Midnight Rain, Anne, Runway, Gol, new fairy tale, court of law, insomnia, and many more… none of these has ever been promoted on recommended, daily round up or front banner and never will because they are hated by Webtoon. These are older titles who've been there a while and never did webtoon put them anywhere. Now they are trying to push most of these further down.

there're many other awesome comics who started even in 2016 who were doing good but got pushed down to pages 10 and more just bcoz webtoon dislike or hate them. So what they do is keep piling new comics (which the number of subs, views and likes aren't even high) on top of these older ones to get rid of them. They don't care if it their stats makes sense or not.

I find myself a bit bewildered by your claim, because not only have almost all of the titles u named been receiving the maximum or close to the maximum pledge amount (before the rework in January,) but quite a few of the titles that you decided to name drop have actually been promoted on recommending titles/weekly round up...?

For Runway and Midnight rain, they were promoted heavily in their earlier days (before webtoon did this whole discovery (when it was still challenge league) ) I remember seeing those two series on daily round up and stay there for about a month's time.
However, I will confirm that you are correct abut none of my webtoons ever being promoted by the company (maybe because my stories are too controversial??? idk.) to my knowledge.
I do believe that webtoons does hand pick and have their favorites as no true random algorithm would ever have a certain series show up multiple amount of times as it is just simply by probability alone, near impossible. But that is just the nature of the company unfortunately and such bias is not uncommon in any part of the creative world

Wow 21 new replies for me. That was a really fun read. I'm not a new creator on webtoon but I'm clearly a noob at how webtoon works. I just simply thought that all titles get equal chance at being selected on recommended titles/fresh picks/front banner, provided that you upload frequently and have the required subscibers for that. I remember Runway was very successful before, it was always on top but LWebtoon never acknowledged it popularity and threw that comic way to the back. also after you mentioned it, I don't remember having ever seen Midnight rain on weekly round up or recommended before. Anyway, I know a few comics that were very popular in the past but are now thrown back: "Her mentor" ( 34k, page 14), Iris (40k, page12 (sorted by popularity)...

when it was still challenge league 2 years ago, I only appeared once in the daily round up for only 2 weeks, then in the spring romance along with many other titles. But that's it. Those older days everyone has appeared at least once which I would not called being “promoted heavily”. I've never appeared anywhere else that LINE picks and that's the truth. I check 'iris' and i see that she updated with more than 15 days gap between the next month update.
Webtoon algorithm make you get kicked out from popularity front page (ex from page 1 to page 30) if you're not updating for more than 15 days.

So when you drop to page 30 and then update an episode you must fight to go back to that front page again.. while you still on your way to go back, then you still can't go back to frontpage because there will be a many new title on front page that maybe update once a week or promoted heavily by webtoon.
