How long do you guys do a research for a story or genre

After bunch of wikipedias, i never feel enough with amount of knowledge that i need for a story.

I usually do about 2 days of research, but lately, I've been doing more for a different book I've been writing. The book is based on the solar system but each planet and galaxy is a person or a setting/ castle. So I need to get every part right to not get called out or give misinformation. Research is always important and I would suggest going on profiles that aren't Wikipedia as ANYONE can edit those.

I do Chinese architecture and culture. I watched a bunch of movies growing up; so there’s some help in my background. But to study-study the structure and the anatomy of the people back when takes a lot more work. I recommend watching films related to your comic’s genre though; they helped a lot!

it depends on the genre, world, and inspiration. If I'm writing a biography, probably not a lot lol.

For my fantasy story, I spent atleast a week looking into a lot of Vietnamese and Summerian myths, history, culture, fashion etc. as inspiration. I even learned a bit of geography to make my world map.

I dont even want to think about the research for a historical story...

I do a lot of research on animals and plants for my story since most of the magic within the world occurs in nature. I can spend upwards of 2 hours looking into the benefits or negative effects of a plant or animal toxin before jotting down how a spell works. Research can be a lot of fun when its for something you love

It’s just a continuous thing. Sometimes I fall down a rabbit hole and learn a bunch of unnecessary stuff though.

I feel like I am always researching. If I encounter something I don't know while I am writing, I look it up.

I spent weeks researching romano-celtic Britain for Errant. Even had a trip to the Roman bathhouse in Bath (Dedicated to Sulis Minerva, the favourite deity of a certain blue haired best girl) which was really great. Also I read a lot of stuff about Arthurian legends and folktales about demons and fey too, obviously, and latin swearwords (though Podex was the only one I ended up using). Plus research into old British place names and how pronunciation of place names shifts over time.

On the style side, I collected reference about the colours used in old American comics and used them as a starting point, doing several style tests before starting.

Oh also, here's something I did that everyone should do. I checked online if there were any other webcomics already with the name I wanted to use to make sure mine was unique.

Honestly I probably did more than I needed to hahaha!

I only do stories about things I have tons of knowledge of :v

The only times I make stories on new things is when I discover or develop certain things naturally.

I will say I'd probably stay away from Wikipedia.

In terms of pre-story prep, probably not that much, but tbh I do most of my research as I'm going along, learning about specific things that are needed in the scene or whatever

Hmm, well I believe it depends on what you are writing / creating. If it is a subject I have knowledge on, I rarely spend much time researching. But i have two projects the past couple of years that I've even bought books for the research. One is about the Chinese civilization / mythology and philosophy. I'm still to this day doing the research and I've bought a dozen of books. The other is a post apocalyptic scenario and i needed to do research for nuclear reactors and suc which im still doing cause it needs lots of studying...

I usually do it as I'm planning/ writing, and if I need to I'll look up reference images.

For my current comic, it centres around a cult so I've looked into various different cults, as well as how cults manipulate their members, stuff like that. I tend to find the subject matter quite interesting, so I naturally look into it anyway.
