How long have you been sharing your work for?

Most of us have been writing, whether we like it or not, since we started school. But when did you start sharing your writing with other people. Those people could be people you know personally like friends or family or it could be posting your art online.

I've shared much of my writing with my siblings for basically my whole life because we started coming up with stories together when we used to play role-playing type superhero games or games set in fantasy worlds (though we never used dice or anything like that.) I started sharing my work with people beyond my immediate circle when I was 15, so it'll be 4 years in June.

If selling is considered sharing in a way for getting one's writing and art to other people, then I've been doing that since 2002 as a freelance writer and illustrator, at competitive market rates. That's twenty three years if you want to put a number on it, and I aim to keep going on for as long as humanly possible.

I started sharing "widely" when I was writing on Wattpad at 14, so over 10 years ago at this point. For what it was it got a surprising amount of readers and I only really appreciated that in retrospect, which was kind of sucky of me.

But then again I've always been writing stories and drawing and showing my parents or like you making up role playing games for my friends. I'm still particularly tickled by the memory of my friend at 8 years old on the trampoline asking "how do you know all these stories?" and didn't get that I was making them up. They weren't that good either, but they were fun for us.

I shared my first Star Wars fanfic in the 80s, my brother is still laughing
about it from time to time after 40 years or something.
Then my brother and me drew several pages daily and showed them
to each other.

My first printed comic (diy) was in 1990 when I was a teenager.

First concert I ever played was in 1983 on a graveyard (not kidding)
I played in a church horn band when I was 8.

First recorded music in 1986 when I was 11.

If poetry counts, then that would be around 2010-2011, when I had a few poems published in a few collections.

I think I shared my first novel in 2016 when I self-published my fantasy novel.

then I stopped writing until 2020, when I got into writing fanfiction with a few friends of mind. Since 2020, I've been pretty consistently writing, where its with more published stories or web novels, although I find I enjoy writing web novels because there is less pressure on a story being a certain length.

I’ve been writing since 2004,I think around 2006 is when I first uploaded a Sailor Moon fan fic. I made my first original work back in 2010.

I would share my writing and drawings occasionally with family or at school when I was little, but I was generally very private about sharing any creations. I've definitely written my share of fan-fiction, hehe. Fast-forward many years, and I've posted my comic here. This is the first thing I've shared online. I've been reading webcomics for years, so I wanted to give it a try myself. I've definitely learned a lot, anyway.

I started sharing my artwork and stuff about my comic online around 2019, beginning with my current Instagram account which was originally my personal social media account until I shifted focus entirely to my artwork. I have archieved most posts from before 2019 since they contain my face and I wanted to keep an air of anonymity but anyways, this was the first time I had actively tried to get my comic out there because before then, I was mostly keeping it to myself. I was admittedly too scared to post anything or try to find communities to talk about series in because I was (and still somewhat am) afraid of mass ridicule for something I cared deeply about. I guess growing up watching videos of adults making fun of artwork done by children and sometimes treating cringe like someone would murder does something to a teenager. But mostly, I didnt have anything to show since I was still developing my artistic skills. But by 2019, I felt like I had progressed enough to draw the comic proper, and so I felt I was ready to begin sharing stuff about it and posting it when I had drawn the first couple of pages. Funnily enough, I didnt start posting my stuff to tapas until 2 years after the fact, because even in 2019, I felt insecure about sharing my comic on actual comic hosting sites XD

I started sharing art on scratch in… (checks my account) 2022. Jan 3rd to be precise. I had an older account, but it wasn’t really art stuff and I unshared most everything. I don’t think I even did digital art back then since I shared some colored pencil drawings.

online? ive been talking about my stories since i was 12, i think. i used to tell people irl about my stories waaay back, like in elementary and early middle school, but by high school i had stopped because people thought i was annoying. i remember one time i attempted to explain my worlds magic system to my friend in grade 12 and they interrupted me to tell me i was boring :')

but that was mostly just talking about my stories, rather than actually sharing what i had written - i did share a bit of that, but not a lot. its only in the last few years ive started to more earnestly share my writing, whether poetry or stories, and then in january i also began publishing my comic
