I had a really simple idea for a story years ago, but only in more recent times have I fully developed out the plotline and characters! Now I've got the whole story planned out. I drew a ton of pages without posting them so that I could have a nice backlog and not get too stressed, but I only started posting it online last fall!

I think I wrote it in 3 months? 45k words in total with 20k written during nanowrimo (july 2018). It came surprisingly easy to me and to this day, it's still my favourite work.

I personally have worked on both Jean-Luc & Joey, Mellisa & Julianna, and Sonia novels since 2014. About 7 years. It wasn't until Tapas integrated its NOVEL category in 2015 when I actually brought my works here. I spend more time writing than I do drawings, but Its been a wonderful experiences regardless. I work on three separate novels with occasional rotation after every 3 or 4 stories.

I've had the idea for my comic since middle school, but it wasn't until 2018 that I got super serious about it and started work on it!(I wanted to spend time learning good writing/story structure and working on improving my art skills too!) I just started posting it in August 2020

I've had the idea for the main characters for years now- I've just started writing it with the intent of posting it recently though. Only three episodes upload now, but I'm uploading one just about every day with the exception of weekeneds.

I'm relatively new, been working on my comic since May! I tried to build up a big buffer so I made 8 episodes before I started posting, so there aren't too many episodes out yet. It's my first comic and I feel a little out of place here, but I'm really proud of it. Please check it out if you're interested in a fantasy coming of age stories about nature and dragons, drawn with watercolor brushes on procreate!

Wow, that's a huge achievement!

I've been publishing my comic for a little over a year now, one new page every Wednesday. It's my first "big" comic. I planned it all out, and it will finish in a few more months.

Starting from idea, drafts, planning (2015), to my first non-main episode posted on Tapas. (around 4 years)

Posting first episode (non-main) out since Dev 2019 (1 year 2 months)

Posting main comic series online for near 5 months.

Total: around 5 years+ in the making.

About 10 years, although I just launced my webtoon's first chapter earlier this week.
It started as a sprite comic spin off of a videogame series I loved. Then it morphed into a different story but same setting. The story was redone a few times as I got older and my story telling improved. Then it turned into an original story idea and a indie game. Then I decided to turn that game into a webtoon.

I started to write a BUNCH of drafts for my comic for as long as 7 years, prolly 8 now that I think about it. It has been such a rollercoaster but as of last year I was finally able to share my work ^^!!

This is my VERY FIRST webcomic to publish, and I'm so excited to keep working on this, it's gonna be pretty long!

Short answer:
A bit over 6 years.

Long answer:
I started with the general premise and the world building back in early 2013.
It was supposed to deal with the question: "What if comic book characters were just like real people?"
I worked from there and every piece of meta fiction I have seen rise in popularity since then has influenced my world.
Rick and Morty, Community, The Unbelievable Gwenpool, various types of anime from isekai to power fantasies to harem comedies were all taken not only as inspiration but actively contributed to the world I was trying to create.

Around 2017 I began working on some of the characters as well, figured out their motivations and how they would deal with certain situations. I researched various types of plot structure and writing techniques to the point that writers block would just be another part of the plot.
Around 2019 It felt almost finished, so I started to work on the 80'ish page prologue to set up some of the rules of the world and realized it had become almost vaguely educational. So in my infinite wisdom I decided to make it educational ... period ...

Now I can at least say with some confidence that I have pretty much everything planned out in a way that it can evolve naturally. A webtoon, a youtube animated series, a possible live action movie akin to last action hero or roger rabbit ...

I know this post will never get seen by more than the usual 3 to 4 people who like scrolling through this forum on a daily basis ... but that's alright with me. It doesn't need to be popular ... it just needs to be good enough for me.

At the time of me writing this there are 26 episodes up on webtoon.
