I will add that Wattpad also seems very...young. Like mostly teens. I'm not sure if that's the common demographic here, but I admit I feel ancient each time I log into Wattpad.

In conclusion, read all your fics (and maybe some original stories, they exist there) on ao3 instead.

Ahh, Wattpad. I had Wattpad for years when I first started writing books, and in my young mind I loved it. But as I grew older, I started to notice Wattpad's many flaws.
In my experience, anything that's not romance or vampire/werewolf doesn't get popular very easily. Not much room for the type of stuff I write, which is more based around self-made fantasy worlds with plenty of action with a sprinkle of romance.
Not to mention the community. Very toxic.
Now, not all of it is bad, I have found many good books, and still use it for smaller stories at times. In fact my story on here, Broken Tranquil, is also on Wattpad. But any stories I put utmost effort into and really pride myself in, the stories I really want to do something with, I keep those far far away from Wattpad, as I've personally experienced others stealing my work on there.

Overall, I am not a very big fan of Wattpad, and much prefer Tapas!

I use wattppad to still jot ideas but I stopped posted. I wanted to start doing comics so I moved webtoons. Now im also here on tapas. Havent psted any books yet~

Also @spicy_sweets i believe I remeber you from Wattpad. i dont remeber if it was from the clubs or not but I do have one of your things in my to read library still xD

I remembered this thread on seeing that with Wattpad's new updates, you can only have 3 stories offline. So many pissed off people on Twitter, it's hilarious.

Hi! I've posted this story to Wattpad. From what I've seen, a bleaker more adult oriented story doesn't seem to have the same interest as the slash fanfic or the romantic stories. I've seen some solid sci-fi works, even some interesting post-apocalyptic work from time to time on there.

I thought I would branch out and post on here.

I have a Wattpad. My main account is AO3 though, so Wattpad is nothing more than a mirror.

I thought of turning it into something else before buuuuuuut I don't write the stuff that site promotes. Not 50 shades or harry potter. So, I had long given up hopes that it would become anything substantial.

I came to Tapas for two reasons:

It has a nice library system where the site remembers your last-read chapter for you. Very consumer friendly.
I hear it's not as dead as Wattpad

Well there was a reader on Wattpad who wanted me to keep posting Birth of a Sin there so...maybe I'll still use it to post chapters and get some feedback (if any) before formatting the chapters into a Tapa-size format

My classmates, I found out, still read Wattpad stories.

No problem to them reading it, I just hope they don't read and actively idolize the more.. toxic tropes that end up becoming popular over there.

How many people are posting novels here looking
for something better than Wattpad? If so, what brought you here?

I don't think it make that much a difference

At one time I thought it would increase exposure, but I'm long gone past that stage. My primary goal as a writer is to get two finished novels, and I use Tapas and Wattpad as a kind of motivator, not to get reads (that seems to be such a roll of the dice I do not even worry about that anymore) but more as a means to push myself to get something out every week.

Once it is all done I'll think of promotion... or not

Even if reader feedback is marginal at best, Wattpad is a great source to get some reader / writer feedback / input on common day questions, like 'how would one deal with situation x in country y'. I worked out a love triangle, a plane crash and a funeral into my first 20k words, and have used that response to the best of my (poor writing) ability

I've removed most episodes from Tapas, and am re-posting them one by one matching a rewrite / update. So you won't find the swimming pool incident yet in the version on Tapas, but it's coming...

I'm also on Wattpad. I like the app but it's over-saturated with a very specific type of stories that I'm just not into.

I have to agree. I love Tapas's formatting and just overall simplistic set up. And I absolutely love the schedule updating. My app for wattpad is so buggy that it's nice to have a site that is easier to use and way more diverse.

And the unlimited downloads on Tapas are awesome. Granted it takes a while longer to download everything chapter by chapter, but it's good. The schedule function, the tipping options, everything's cool.
