Haha. At the very first post. Guess it got lost in the crowd of replies. Here you go.
I see that you've already got a pretty nice following. I'll definitely have a look. Maybe not today, but in the next week for sure. I've found so many talented novelists today... I'll have a lot of reading to do, it seems.
Thank you!
Yes, I remember seeing that one. I just forgot to subscribe and had to restart my PC so it got lost. Clumsy, blind and a bad memory. Not a bad combo I'm rocking.
I'll definitely take a look at it this week. I've gotten so many new novel recommendations in this thread that I might not be able to do anything else but read for a while now...
I have spent quite a bit of time planning my series as it is multimedia. (Writing, art, music, animation, and a game.) It is four years in progress with much more content to be released!
I don't like spending a lot of time on the plot before I start writing because I have a tendency of overcomplicating things and losing interest really quickly. So it's often the dumbest and simplest ideas that end up as actual writing for me. I jot down some of the basic plotpoints and character motivations and as I write, I jot down any potential side plots, side characters, etc. that I come up with. If I'd write all plot stuff beforehand I would feel like I need to stick to that as closely as possible, now I can just tailor scenes to fit with how the characters end up behaving.
Interesting, do you work on all of those alone? Or is it a collaborative project?
It's all by me and everything can be found together on my website.
How long are your series usually? Because I feel like this approach works for shorter series but if you want something that will span multiple books, you need some more planning. I personally at least do, since I can't remember what I ate for breakfast and I would forget I wrote something without planning it.
That's really cool, that you can do all that stuff. So you're an artist, writer, musician, animator, game developer and programmer? Hats off to you sir. I'll definitely take a look at it.
I have uhm.... a doc in google docs!
I am haha! I usually just say I'm an artist though because I feel like I'm "showing off" if I say anymore. But yeah, I'm 25 and have been practicing since I was about 13. : D Thank you and I hope you enjoy it!
Don't get me wrong, Google Docs is still my go2 resource. I have so many drafts, edited drafts, notes and whatnot there... It's a mess
I'm programmer/developer (JS, C/C++, Golang, Python), Linux administrator, writter, comic creator, and halfprofesional chess player.
Btw. Google Docs are not that great as LibreOffice.
this is the first series I'm 100% commited to finishing and I'm halfway book one now, but I plan on having multiple books. Already have a few plotpoints I want to use for those though and I'm careful not to do anything that could directly contradict any of those plotpoints. Yeah, remembering stuff is a challenge, especially with details and unresolved threads, but I try to keep notes of those as I write.
I feel like what you're doing is very impressive. I feel humbled. Keep up the good work and I hope you'll enjoy my series as well!
Interesting. I haven't heard of LibreOffice. What kind of a program is it?
The resemblance between my stance and yours is uncanny. If I would see your response in 2 weeks without a name, I would swear I wrote that.
omg haha, that's great. Idk, planning too much stuff out just doesn't work for me. Although... I once forgot I had named one of the side characters Lex already, so I named him Nick and had to go back to change Lex to Nick, so... mistakes happen.
