How would a writer go about finding an artist?

I'm not an awful artist but I feel like my strength is in the words- not the art. I was wondering if anyone had an tips for finding one. (Maybe if you are one?)

It can be very difficult to find an artist to collaborate on a long term project is there's no payment involved.

People do post on the forums occasionally that they are artists looking for writers. I would search for those threads and see if any of those artists are still available/interested.

You could also make a post (or add to this thread) with more details about your project and see if anyone bites.

If you're good enough to be describing yourself as 'not awful' (most writers looking for an artist say they can't draw at all), then you're better off going ahead and drawing it yourself. You'll improve as you draw, and while good art might catch people's eyes more easily, it's the writing that generally decides whether or not they stay.

AI stumbled on a writer on Craigslist of all places. That worked for us because he wanted a local artist he could personally meet to discuss art direction and future parts of the project. The forums are a great place to find artists too. I have seen plenty of artists looking for writers as well on here so just keep your eyes open and the right person is bound to show up.
