Wow! This Inksgiving is really a big succes! We reach twice our goals! I am so proud of the enthusiasm of our community! I wonder will Tapas give more of the rewards.

The ink that we donated to each other in an event to support community creators will be returned as bonus ink which can only be used to unlock premium series? Am I reading this correct? Wow! Such a great reward for the community, as everyone on Tapas would surely appreciate it ️

(Edit: please be a miscommunication)

I assume it would be the bonus ink since the support buttons are all locked now?

So it wasn't a community event like previous years, we were pre paying for premium stuff.

By that I mean all the support buttons for non creators were unlocked during Inksgiving, so you can give ink to them. But since the event is over, you can only send ink to those who have ink support available (comic creators or writers).

I have no idea about non creators with support unlocked but regardless, why is that a reason to change the ink that is returned? There are plenty of community creators with support unlocked.

For events, tapas usually returns ink through bonus ink and not support ink regardless if its creator or reader. I won 1st in the pride contest and got a ton of bonus ink, but since I couldn't use it as revenue, it was pretty much useless to me (except for being able to give it to other creators). I would be surprised if they actually gave ink through support since it would be a lot more complicated too.

Yet another backstabbing from Tapas!
The ONLY reason I gave ink this Inksgiving, is to continue supporting community artists I like, with the knowledge that I will get back some of the ink, as usual, which, with other ink, will go to support artists I LIKE next Inksgiving.
I would NEVER have been part of this Inkgiving if I had known they would change the rules going on for years. I'm not sure whether this change was posted somewhere before Inksgiving, but in any case, it was clearly not well publicized.
I know some will say Tapas does not have to do the ink give back. Yes, but they did for several Inksgiving, and people participation to the event depends on what the event promises. This year, we did participate to an event on a false promise, and Tapas has the audacity to make it like we get an extra gift (of 5% of ink that is USELESS to many of us). 0% ink instead of 20% is not a very good gift...

Now, I'm forced by Tapas to let the ink expire, or support artists I don't particularly like.
I don't hate premium artists as individuals. Obviously not. I could use the bonus ink to support them even if I don't particularly like what they do. But I will not, because I refuse to be part of the problem. I refuse to help Tapas disrespecting us again, again and again.

"We'd strongly prefer if readers and community creators do not spend ink on community creators". Here. Was that so difficult to express? Not nice? Well, this is exactly what giving us bonus ink means.

I'm looking at the discussion on discord happenning at this moment on this subject and the single person claiming they've stated that it'll be with bonus ink has yet to find proof
Someone found something suggesting otherwise

The fact that it's difficult to find is enough proof, to me, that it is dishonest. When you do such a big change that changes the whole meaning and purpose of the event, you have to communicate LOUDLY about it...

Also, a ton of mixed messages to be fair. I remembered that early it was bonus ink, somewhere, but then later they said it was regular ink. I guess we'll know in mid-December which it is

Because surely that's the way to communicate this kind of information. Not on the official information sent through the website, but on a file on an assets folder filled with many other files people maybe or may not check because it's, well, an assets folder :+1:

Will I be able to give this ink to indie creators or just the premium comics/novels?

If they really give it in bonus ink, no, that's for premium stuff only

"small print.......the beacon of transparency and trustworthyness"

It saddens me to see how low has Tapas fallen........

Having so much issues right now with ink (cant even access anything).
I hate this ink system. Its comes across as a scam. If ink is ink why cant I give my bonus ink to others.
I have to buy ink to support so Tapas gets a percentage. And am I reading right it now comes back as bonus ink?
I prefer to support with a system like KO-FI or Patreon (as much as I dont like them either)
At least the creators get something to help them create.
Ink has no value outside Tapas. none. nada.

and that was my first inksgiving i participated. I wanted to get actual inks back, but not as bonus ink!

yeah im pissed. I'm really pissed. lets boycott inksgiving next year

Well! Time to celebrate supporting the community by reading Tapastic's newest premium series: "Reincarnated in another world as a stylish pair of pants and also being bought at a fantasy world's Old Navy for a reasonable price to be worn by a villainess who is also me!!!???!"

So looks like we suffered from some sort of Mandela effect because I looked at my transaction history and the ink I received back in previous years was indeed bonus ink. Now, I participate in events often, so it also happened that I received regular ink on the same day last year, and with a few days difference the year before that. Maybe that's why I remember being able to give it to community creators? I'm not sure, but my brain kinda hurts now xD

I am extremely disappointed. This year I struggled financially and could afford a lot of ink, so finding out that the bonus can only be used to unlock premiums seriously ruined my plans and ran out of ink before I could support all the creators I love. :pensive::pensive::pensive::pensive:

I know, but it was explained to me it was bonus ink. That's as far as I know :raising_hand:

(I'm still confused)

i think i remember now......back in the day, the ink earned from inksgiving was like regular ink but with an expiration date........

It says ink reimbursement. You cannot reimburse with a lower grade product if you are an honest company. It's bad enough that there is an expiry date, even worse if it was bonus ink from the beginning. We are now discussing whether Tapas started scamming us only this year, or many years ago
I still think it is more likely it was expiring normal ink.

for the old inskgiving events ink was returned as regular ink but iirc it did have an expiry though i don't recall why but it may show up with an expiry now based on whatever tapas new back-end system may be since the site overhaul

the change for it to now be bonus ink is disappointing but not that surprising. it's possible events like these may have run tapas at a deficit or something (and lets not forget that tapas does need it's profits) so their way of making up for it is having folks use bonus ink on the premium or early access series which puts money back into their pockets

again it def sucks because rather than folks being able to give to any creator of their choosing it's now a limited pool of premium + early access comics and since their the big rats that make all the rules we've no choice but to follow suit or go elsewhere

i'd say for folks who are able give to ko-fis/patreons if you can or reshare stuff on social media. as for response to tapas it's basically the same as any other time people have any gripes with a company (boycotting, rescinding financial support, voicing issues/complaints in a more public place or taking work/business elsewhere)

like call me pessimistic but at the end of the day business is gonna do what business is gonna do whether people like it or not and sometimes the peoples response does things to change those decisions and other times it's just a drop of water in a big ocean so you either go with the flow or try harder to make waves

And taking it a step further -- just give more likes, comments, and help promote the stories you like. The webcomics community has always thrived on doing these things (long before hositing sites became a big deal), so I'm confused as to why that would suddenly be stopped or slowed down.

I just find other ways to support the creators I like, especially if they have completed series. I would rather promote the stuff I wanna see more of and make a big stink than wait around and hope someone does it for me. And that's just in general.

Ink is only one way to give support. And as you can see on Tapas (and as I've seen since 2017), people crave audience interaction. So if you haven't gone through and given any recent links or comments, maybe now's the time.

I'm saying this without the mod hat on. I'm saying this as someone who struggled with getting more people to interact since 2017. If you can't give ink, at least give more links, comments, and help promote your peers.

And a lot of us here already do that, so this is not geared towards the usual people.

As a self employed person, I get that.
But the issue is that they promoted the event as a community event, and then veered on another course, dissimulating and lying in the process. And it is not the first time. It seems to be the usual way to go for them, now.
It's a very cowardly way to avoid big backlash, exodus etc. The alternative being stopping all community events and focussing overtly on their only actual focus, Premiums.
Every person speaking against this kind of way to do business is helping. Yes, sometimes businesses may have to stop providing a service to part of their customers to refocus on more profitable ones. But there is no justification for the lies, fake reassurances immediately followed by backstabbings, and borderline scammy moves.
That attitude of not caring at all about the community creators BUT being apparently terrified of losing them, is not very professional imo.

i wholeheartedly agree but i think in terms of response the best course of action are the things jenny mentioned above along with the quote

like for folks who've been here a long time we've seen this decline with tapas so from my perspective or rather in my own opinion it's merely a matter of time before it al comes back to bite them in the ass. like i want to see community creators do well it's something we've been vocal about or tried to be for years but tapas has kept on trucking with their current pathways and we see where and how it's leading them so i guess the only thing to get them to pay attention will be the resulting consequences of their misleading and deceptions

Lets make their fears a reality :smiling_imp: (im aware ppl really cant but omg)

I was angry this morning after knowing that the rebate inks are in bonus form.
But I found a way to support authors that I truly enjoy... the MATURE content authors!
Since I only enjoy Early Access for Lord Have Mercy, the next place I dump my bonus inks is Yona by DarkBox. Hope he would come back to Tapas and cash in those inks.
Overall, I'm still a little unhappy about the bonus ink though. I thought I would be able to support independent authors who I really enjoy reading. I'm just dislike spending it on Premiums and other Early Access works that I don't like.

Hahaha
I was more interested in reading
"the admiral is a villain's daughter who is also a cat and a teacher at my tyrant academy!"

Its almost as if the titles are created using post it notes and a dartboard!

It's honestly become so bizarre that parodies have become nigh indistinguishable from the real thing it seems.... XD

Tbh this is one of my favourite things about modern isekai. Like how weirdly descriptive can a title be while still trying to be different. I love it seeing what they come up with.

Lol, agree, it's like nowadays I swear the titles get more and more ridiculous. It just makes me go what?

Well, I still have some authors that I enjoy. Also, the wording is blatantly unclear so I suppose I shall know once December comes what it is and what I should do with it.
