I catigorized my comic as BL but

So I am having a hard time going with just one category for my comic. I feel that it probably is best as BL but I feel that is too simplified and am tempted to go with Drama. I also would include Romance and Fantasy if I had my way. I have always been romantically inspired and have used my characters as a way to express my many personalities across the gender and sexual spectrum. I know people have strong feelings both ways about bl so is it worth it to label it that?

I really truly welcome any ones input on my comic, especially in this early on stage. I have made and printed comics in my past but this is my first time making an ongoing web comic. Thanks in advance for any input given.

EDIT Hello, I decided to come back to my own thread 8 months later now that my comic is wrapping up it's first chapter.
I still have my comic categorized as BL with it's main genre mainly because it does get spicy with a gay romance. However I still feel odd categorizing it at all. As a non binary person do you think it would be better in the new LGBTQ category?

Reading it it comes off as more fitting to the supernatural or fantasy genres for me just from subject matter alone. However, BL is a pretty popular genre on tapas and might get you more views, but typically it’s used as the primary genre descriptor when the romance is the biggest part of the story so if you have a ton of other more fantastical or plot elements it might not be as accurate?
It’s hard to say which would work best at this point since it’s so early In the story but I’m sure you’ll find the perfect fit!

Thanks for the reply and taking the time to check it out! It is a hard choice isn't it? I started it as BL but felt inclined to change it to drama but when post 2 and 3 got less reaction I changed it back to BL... I now feel ridiculous for not being able to make up my mind lol.

It’s a tough choice picking a genre tbh! You want to pick one people will see but also...you want to be accurate. Tbh I spent a ton of time agonizing over labeling mine and so have many other people so you’re not alone! As you work through things and develop more pages I’m sure it’ll come to you!

I've seen people categorize their comics in, let's say, Supernatural, but putting "Supernatural BL" on the icon. It's a bit of a work around with Tapas's one category only thing. That's always worth a shot if you think it fits better that way.

I'm in the same boat and have debated this issue with my various split personalities since I started posting my comic about 10 months ago. I'm under BL because it's worked best for me so far (but subject to change), and based on your description, and look, your comic is way more BL than mine.

My comic is more supernatural drama with a gay protagonist, but the Drama Category on Tapas, from my experience, is a bit of a graveyard and doesn't get that many eyeballs.

I recommend using whatever category makes you happiest for a week or two and seeing how many views you get. If you're not gaining traction, label it a different category and see how it goes.

The genre you pick as your main one is all about visibility and which one you think will attract you the most readers. The BL and Fantasy genres are super oversaturated, so if you want more visibility, you could pick LGBTQ. But way more people click on the BL tag, so maybe that's the right spot. It's up to you.
