The Rocky series is one of the best movie sets of all time! It definitely makes you an expert, learning from the italian stallion is highly recommended.
I know what you mean. My sister in law is Australian and her mind was blown when she came to Cyprus for the first time. We have some of the oldest settlements in the world so the island is marinaded in myth and history way older than most countries! Still, I've lived in London for 8 years and I have yet to see an umbrella shop that old. Funny how much more we take in when we are visiting a country, isn't it?
