I have a problem with the subreddit /comics

I can't copy and past things because I was so offended that I deleted my post along with the comment and left that subreddit, but basically, this is what happened and for some context, longform comics don't become popular to begin with in the /comics though they are still welcomed....

It is not uncommon for me to get downvoted, but this redditor tells me to post chapters individual pages with no context. Excuse me, but us longform comic writers post individual pages as a marketing ploy and it's (supposed to be) allowed in the the subreddit /comics just as long as you're not spamming. You see the page, it makes you interested and follow its trail to the site where the webcomic is for you to read from the beginning.

Am I wrong to feel offended and for leaving a subreddit that never welcomed me? My work was always downvoted to 0 like clockwork and then I get a comment like that? If I sound angry, it's because I am.

Eh, this subreddit is all about 4 panels gags anyways. I don't think anything that has any possible plot beyond one short strip does well there, to be honest. Not worthy to spend your energy on it or its redditors if it doesn't feel any good.

I personally have had good engagement on r/comics, but my comic is short form and as you said that does a lot better on there.

I don't blame you for being annoyed. My comics get some unsavory comments too even though most of them are nice. Reddit has a ton of people who just want to be negative, I wouldn't take it personally.

Well... You knew the subreddit wasn't welcoming to long format Comic Creators, you've seen the signs about your content which was being ignored and downvoted. So far, for as long as this happened that should've been some kind of indicator that the way you formatted things on said subreddit was a no-go.
Until, the day you start receiving comments complaining about the format.

There are other subreddits out there that are focused on long format be it traditional or vertical, or you can even create your own.
Reddit has always been known for having quite the amount of negative or rude people, so to a certain degree its kind of expected.

As a content creator, yeah I get feeling upset about certain subreddits having some dumb rules or specific formats (Mine is that some art subreddits don't allow watermarks or low-res images, which then I simply don't join instead of forcing my way in despite being against them and expecting I'll be accepted despite not following its norms).

And at the same time I kind of understand being in a place, used to its rules and format and then having that one person that doesn't follow through, its almost like in a FB group you're expecting art related stuff, mostly drawings or videos, but then there is this one person that makes a whole rant about AI be it in favor or against it. And yeah it does piss off, it ruins the flow a bit and if you don't feel like talking to the person about not being a partypooper or at least post art with their rant. You'll simply report it to the admin and then post deleted, a reminder of the rules or well, the person being kicked out the group.

I'm VERY new to Reddit, but I'm familiar with your issue. You are right to feel angry when you're trying to share something to others and it gets rejected. All I've done is post a cover and a Linktree, and a couple of snippets for a preview. But I posted in webcomics, so there may be a different audience there.

Yes, you are right about that one-page-out-of-context thing, and that's not a bad marketing strategy. I do it in the Tapas forums. I think that Redditor is just toying with you, but I don't know. Maybe try a different subreddit? Or create your own?

I don't know that many, but you might have to do some digging, unless others here are on others that they can share...

Best to experiment, and don't let that toxic bs get to you, I like your comic, and subbed yesterday(humble brag). Just keep trying, you'll find a place. Mine is definitely here atm.

There is one and that one is much kinder. I guess I'm hurt because the /comics section is supposed to be welcoming to all comics, but it's not. It feels little like betrayal.

It is MK_Wizard_Lady. I found lots of places to post, but I'm very surprised that for a media platform that is famous for loving comics, they don't get that longform comics post one page at a time as a marketing tactic and telling someone not to do it pretty insulting.

No yeah, from what I've heard, /r/Comics is very bad for longform comic creators. You're really only likely to succeed there if you do gag-a-day. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience.

I've heard that the key to success on Reddit is less posting your actual comic and more posting illustrations related to your comic on relevant subreddits, then linking your comic in the comments section. I haven't had much luck with it myself (unfortunately /r/MagicalGirls seems pretty dead), but apparently some people have done REALLY well with this tactic.
