hypothetically if I were to just dump like 5 scripts here for anyone to use, make money from, etc as long as they credited me.

I'm not gonna tell you it's a bad idea, but I will say it's short sighted.

Well.. hypothetically, getting credit for ideas is.. fine, I guess? But why would that be a better option than just working on your ideas to the end as finished projects??? You wouldn't be getting a lot back out of the work you've done, especially for 5 scripts worth of work. Matter of fact, the credit you'd get outta publishing everything yourself would be worth more than just being the person who came up with a concept

with the exception of prose, i know the site publishes novels but does anyone read scripts here?

I guess my question is what goal would you want from this?

Are you trying to make a name as a ghost writer for the comic community? Because that's kinda all I see when you offer your scripts for other people to use (as opposed to collaborating or hiring someone to make your work into a comic).

And if you're going with that route, would this be a completely free service or would you try and offer a rate?

As it stands, even if the artist credited you, I feel the most attention would be on the comic itself rather than who made the script. And if there is attention coming your way, it may come with expectations of you having published work available.

I dunno about posting scripts as is.. I'm not sure if there's even readers on the site who'd wanna read a story in its rawest form like that. You might wanna convert everything into novel format.. which would be a hassle, yeah, I know, but the amount of credit you get from being a writer who published a story themselves... it shows that you're willing to see your creation through to the end.

That's the kind of credibility lots of up and coming writers these days don't have, the kind that could potentially land you a decent collaboration deal for an adaptation or something new. If you wanna get into writing scripts for comics, publishing stuff on your own is definitely not a bad place to start

well collaboration I think is hard for a lot of people mainly because most want to make what they want to make unless given some kind of incentive so thats money or because they really like the idea.

as a writer especially one without any kind of reputation, credit, clout or money. its kind of impossible to find an artists who want to work with you, let alone finish a project.

i guess what i want ideally is an artist partner or partners to make things with?

Then yeah -- the best way to get that is to build up your reputation. You can only do that by turning your scripts into novels (or at least short stories), and publishing them.

It also helps to engage in the conversations happening within communities (especially in this one), because people generally prefer to partner with other creatives that can get things done or at least have a steady flow of published work.

Or -- another approach: if you're good at writing scripts, offer advice and suggestions for people on the topic. How can people improve their scripts? How do you write your scripts? What are the most important things you include in your scripts?

I still say it helps to increase your abilities so that you can write novels/short stories, but also understand what you can do in the meantime.

I was thinking it was shortsighted because no one would be contractually obligated to credit you. They could lie about where they got the idea and it would turn into a "he said, she said" situation. There's nothing really to be gained from throwing content into to the ether if you're gonna leave it to other people to back it.

Even if your ideas are super amazing, there's so many people with the same ideas out there. Excecution of those ideas can change so much and whoever reads your script might like concepts you've used, but might not want to refer to it for every scene or dialog and recreate it. In that regards, I'm not sure you can really prove anyone is using it without credit.

If you want to publish them for yourself, without the expectation of anyone picking them up, I think a website with an archive of different scripts would be a fun idea. You might want to rework them later into novels or illustrate them into comic format, or just leave them as is--which seems to be your current thought. But just posting them doesn't need to be for others; and I think it would be a much better feeling to seperate from that and really just do it for yourself and because it makes you happy.
