I have deleted this post seven

[Aleksei]

Hi @danwad25 ! Hey, I have a battery of questions, so, sorry in advance if its too much n_nU
But first, thank for reaching out! It's already more than Kakao is doing xd

1-Is there a forum there? I think that one of the best things on this place is the forums. Discord just doesn't do it, specially with the age verification and biometric data collecting going around, that its a big no no from me.
2-Can an user delete their comic if they wishes? This may be a 'duh, yes', but I have seen pages that don't allow you to do it. That you need to send a message to 'the company' and they will decide if you are allowed your work to be removed. That is incredible abusive, so I must ask.
3-I saw that you accept NSFW, as long as it doesn't involve minors, and I must ask, how do you decide what is a 'minor', and how accepted is that NSFW? Let me explain. It is a minor because it looks like a minor, or because its age? Because some artist will draw someone very young, and then say 'they have 20 years old', to avoid the age problem but still have their fetish made. It also works on the other side, a developed adult that it really have only 14. Hell, most manga and TV put adults on young people roles. And the teens mostly always have a pass, because they look like adult even when legally are minors? I mean, if they have 17 its forbidden, even if they are in the university, or 18 is forbidden because they are in school set up?. And about how much NSFW is enough, do you ask for black bars when things are too much on your face, or everything goes as long as its forewarned because we are all adults here.
4-Is there a way to monetize your work there, like some sites do the ads thing and leave some mere cents to the artist, or are we allowed to leave donation links, like directly to PayPal? Its not really a problem because most of us already don't receive money even when we reach the viewers quota, but it would be nice to know.
5-Do we receive a notification if a comment is done in our webcomic? Or a follower? Again this seems a dumb question, but Webtoons doesn't tell us!! I hate that community can't be done there because I don't know if someone spoke to me.

Well, I think that is all.
I'm sorry if I asked for something that its already answered on your FAQ, I only glanced at it quickly while searching for sites xD

Again, thanks for reaching!

I just created a Pinya account after I saw someone post about it last night, and it's actually quite similar to Tapas. They host comics and novels. There's also seems to be no restrictions on the shape of your comic, meaning you can have square, strip, scroll, and more. The only thing it seems like you have to worry about is how big the file size is.

Please note, I haven't really gotten a chance to play around with it, so I don't know too much about it other than this. I've also noticed that they actually have to approve of the pages you post. I guess that maybe means they have human moderators.

Another one I created was a Fables account, I'm actually really digging the fact that they have no limit on how many characters I can add to the cast page. I feel like that site really was designed for comic creators. My only issue is that desktop mode on my phone doesn't work on there, and that's how I was adding comics on the go on here. Luckily I can just upload on there straight from my iPad, which will definitely save me a lot of time.

The only other mirrors I have are what I mentioned on your thread from The Duck.

I shall try my best to answer and pardon my tangents I will likely go on!

1. There is no dedicated forum right now, that's mostly due to moderation issues. The site is maintained/operated solely by myself currently and I have no external assistance for forum moderation. I could vet some volunteers, but I also don't like people doing work for free so I'll always feel indebted to them. I can look into adding forums at some point in the future. In the meantime we do talk a lot on Inkstra's discord, but I understand the privacy issues. I'm a big privacy nut personally, my workstation and my personal computers all run Linux instead of Windows for that reason, and I use a GrapheneOS phone. I keep privacy and whatnot at the forefront of how I operate the site, the only personal information stored is an email, unless usernames also count. Any kinds of bans that are linked to devices usually use IP-derived hashes that cannot be traced back to original IP addresses, for instance. And I even gutted Adsense from the platform because I didn't like what Google tracked and stored from people. (pardon the tangent) Also there's the 'social feed' area where creators can make public posts and it almost functions like an embedded social media platform. You should click the social feed button on the homepage to see what I mean

2. This actually is a bit more nuanced than you'd think, people can delete their work, yes. It removes content and derivative content (we process/compress images for instance to optimize the site, the quality of the images doesn't really change when presented, despite the derivative images sometimes being 100 times smaller). If the user posts something illegal, we can disable the account and hide their work from public view, but if something is needed retroactively to send over to authorities where we're legally obligated to do so, then it can be accessible to only from Inkstra AWS users logging into AWS and fetching the content from where it's stored. But if someone simply wants to delete their content by deleting their account or deleting their series from the author dashboard, it will delete it.

3. This is where we would use discretion on a case-by-case basis. If I see a character that looks young in NSFW settings, it's getting nuked. I won't let people try to skirt the line here, if they're "lolicons" or whatever the terminology is these days and they look young, I will remove it. The platform itself can get in trouble and I'm not taking that kind of risk and I won't traverse back to chapter 20 or so to see where the age is mentioned when a chapter 124 spicy scene comes into play. If I find credible information that they do the opposite, by saying "This person is very young but looks like an adult", that will also get it removed, but that may not be as easy to track so it may linger for longer than the other way around.

4. There used to be ways to monetize but I took it down. Again it links back to privacy and Adsense, I don't like how they operate and how much data they track, so I disabled ads on the site. Another thing that led me to that decision is the simple fact that I cannot give Inkstra my full attention that is needed to also run the finances properly and run it as an actual business. I have a full time job as a software engineer outside Inkstra and I have a family of 4, so the business side is lacking and I would rather not get OTHER people's money tied up in it unless I could dedicate more time/resources to it. In lieu of this, I allow creators to add their socials, and if they add things like links to Patreon or KoFi, they get a 'Tip jar' on their chapters and in other places so people can support them on those platforms.

5. Email and platform notifications go out, and you can configure email notifications to a decent degree. Off the top of my head I cannot remember if you get them when you gain followers, but you definitely do when people comment or reply to your comments.

I hope that sums up everything! I try to be as transparent as I can be with things. Inkstra is a passion project of mine and I just wanted to address the woes from the major platforms. I personally pay for infrastructure out of pocket (thankfully I've made it cheap to operate) and I don't collect any ad revenue or anything, I only get lone occasional patreon supporters but that's never expected.

This is super helpful! I needed something like this! It really helps a lot! Thank you so much putting time and effort!

[tapastic79]

To accommodate Tapas migrations, ComicFury just increased the images per page limit from 12 to 25.
Announcement

[Aleksei]

Thank you! You have been very helpful!

[TravisB]

Apparently you can only make one promotional post as far as i know.... I dont get it really... The layout of that website is very confusing to me and the rules are hard to remember. Its hard to go into 5 different screens to find stuff

[metheenaroonie]

This is a fantastic post!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much for the details on these sites!!

I feel far more confident now about where to post and what to expect.

You are awesome!

[reapcykesart]

Yeah, only one thread in particular that you can bump as much as you want. Though the best way to advertise your stuff in ComicFury is to add an image link to your webcomic in your signature and then do casual chatting in the forums.

[miuthecat]

Regardless where you go, you need to advertise your comic, because being part of such gigantic listings means your comic will get lost in the crowd (even if it's the most interesting comic in the world).

[TravisB]

Yeah honestly this was a great option Bec i could spam promote my stuff 50 times in a row 100 times in a row on here lol

[nathanKmcwilliams]

Another option I see no one talking about is hosting your own website.
That is what I am doing now. And I have total freedom to make it look like how I want.
I won't lie and say it is effortless, or it's easier to get eyes on your comic. Those as always take work, determination, and most importantly time.
But if you are able to spend a little money once per year for hosting costs you can quickly get set up on WordPress and then install a free comic theme called Toocheke and get started creating your own space to call home for your comic. There are tons of free tutorials on how to do this.
I did this just this year and I wish I did it a long time ago. I feel free to go about my comic in the way I want, the only restriction is how much effort I want to put into the business side of comics.
Good luck out there.

Toocheke is a WordPress theme for webcomics/manga! —

[metheenaroonie]

Hey, what is "Linktree"? IS that a place to post comics?

[metheenaroonie]

Hey, so, what are some of the best ways to advertise your comic?

[metheenaroonie]

Hey, I'm thinking of using Fables. Do you think my comic would fit there?
