I love NIGHTMARES, tell me yours

So I'm the nerd that made this forum post: what do you want out of a HORROR comic?
If you have some imput on that, I'd like to send you right there that way. ;D

ANYWAYS.

So, I am working on a thousand things at once. All of them are HORROR oriented, unfortunately for some of the viewers out there. I'm working on a comic where once a night students get send to a different "world" where they have to fight to survive. In a story (book/novel/possible future comic) I am writing, an old lady makes her way into a fantasy world where nightmarish creatures are making their way around.

I have chronic nightmares, a condition that accounts for 12% of the people on the planet. So I am USED to being assaulted by creatures, horrible monsters, etc. So I'm kinda numb to the whole thing. So tell me yours! I want to see if ther is something inherent about people having nightmares. What drives us to be so scared we wake up from the melancholy of sleep?

I used to have nightmares a lot as a kid, but I can't remember many of them. Most of my dreams/nightmares now tend to be really abstract or odd and I think probably symbolic. A common theme in my nightmares tend to be end of the world scenarios, most of which involve uncontrollable situations (usually space related.) I also dream about tornadoes a lot. Not really a lot of monsters or creatures though =O

Ooo, very cool topic, very cool premise for the horror comic, too! The realm of nightmares is crazy, heck yes. In my experience, most of my nightmares end up becoming rather unimpressive as I grow more conscious, heh. Like... something absurd may occur in them that has me totally freaked out upon waking but within an hour or in the morning, I'm wondering why it was ever startling in the first place. THAT SAID...

I also have dreams that creep in on me and begin to seem increasingly unsettling the longer I'm awake. I had a slew of dreams in which I was accidentally involved with people doing terrible things. One kept happening in which I had to stab a guy giving a speech. Three women and me, I'm the one who has to stab the guy and make sure he dies! We all split up, running to hide in a hospital nearby. Just frantically rushing through narrow hallways, very dark, following exit signs, pushing past doctors, and trying to figure out the best hiding place. Too terrified to see how close the police or whoever's chasing is to catching me. Fling into an empty room, closet -- usually full of something, stuffed animals or broken down boxes or clothes which is perfect! I dig to hide myself in them, barely have enough time to settle when the police just immediately come and find my spot, arresting me immediately and carrying me out.

I wake up at the same point, being quietly led away but it's always so awful! The adrenaline from running and trying to hide is intense.

All my nightmares are nsfw.. Except a recurring one when I was 3, I'd run to the loungeroom before being picked up by a monster and thrown at the wall before waking up, no matter what dream I had it always ended like that until I moved... So about 6ish

One of my most recent really interesting nightmares was a mixture of a lot of weird and a nightmare.

It starts off not scary and it doesnt really mix with the second half at all so i wont talk about that, what i will talk about was the second half
It started off with me and a group of people on a competition and what we had to do was walk to the centre of this house which is clearly haunted af. And btw theres are zombies everywhere cause the zombie apocalypse happened apparently. So my team is composed of me, this fat guy with a goate who you would probably see sitting home alone playing games as moe characters who is our leader, two kids (a boy and girl about 8 or 10), this lady who is pretty badass, a butler, maid and other random people i cant remember.
One of he kids finds this broken window for us to enter through cause the doors are locked and we see bones thrown about around it. Theres some contemplation of whether this is safe. OFCOURSE ITS NOT! so we plow through
In the house there are traps and zombies and pretty much just a death trap. Almost everyone dies except the fat guy the butler, maid, me and the kids. We finally reach the center. but once we get there we are suppose to get our prize but the guy thats suppose to give it to us refused to sign our ticket which would mean we won. The fat guy in all his anger and rage says that he would fart on the ticket if he didnt sign it. the ticket was some kind of sacred thing or something so the game master guy is all "dont you dare." but fat guy being fat guy, does fart on it and everything goes to shit. and there are zombies everywhere and the team splits us with me being left with the kids and the butler.
Im almost near the window we went through to get in but the ground looks weird so i let the butler go first and the ground breaks open and he falls in to a pit of zombies. cant go that way anymore so i run with the kids twoards the door. at the door i see the butler and maid (now clearly zombies) but they can talk and ask me to go with them to check something that looked wrong. I tell the little boy to go with them and run away with the girl.
Now finally out, i run towards our car but a zombie comes out of nowhere raging towards me and i know im gonna die and i wake up.

While this might just seem like a crazy dream it made me realize that i was quite selfish like sacrifice you for my own good kind of selfish with terrified me ._.

Haha I don't really have nightmares anymore. Only really strange - but interesting - dreams. However, I did have some scarring memories of nightmares when I was like 4. Most of them stemmed from the movies that I unfortunately watched with my dad when I was not really ready >_<. I think one of them involved cannibals and meathooks (hooray). Jaws also freaked me out. I had a fantastic sleep after those. (=__=)

Ok,so this one time,i had a dream where i woke up in the middle of the night,my tv was still on....well i think it was my tv because there was light coming from the livng room,so anyway i was on my bed,and no matter what i did i couldn't stand up or go back to sleep,i had a red pencil in my hand and threw it for some reason,but the pencil was just floating in the air,and slowly came back to me,the more it came back,the louder the noise from the livng room,there was somekind of shadowy figure standing there,the pencil came near and near.and then i woke up.........

IT WAS SCARY FOR ME ,OK?!?!?

Anyone here ever had nightmares about the pink elephants from Dumbo? I think I had such nightmares twice, and both times was after watching the movie that day.

The most memorable one I had happened when I was about 4 or 5 years old. I was sleeping in bed with my bed covers over my head as I usually did back then. For some reason I decided to look out from under my quilt at the Big Bird night light I had. His beak suddenly grew, accompanied with a quick slide whistle-type sound effect. I quickly covered my head with my quilt somehow hoping it would go away/stop/didn't see me? (Thinking about it now, I have no idea what I hoped would happen doing this.) I waited for a moment before poking my head out again, only to find myself, still in bed, in the middle of the living room. Suddenly I hear faint music, which sounded eerily familiar in a bad way. I turn to see where it's coming from, to see the pink elephants from Dumbo skip-marching in a single file towards my direction. Scared, I threw the covers back over my head and - this time I know for sure - I hoped they would go away. I waited a moment before slowly poking my head out from beneath the covers. I was back in my room and my Big Bird night light back to normal. Needless to say, it took me awhile to go back to sleep.

As I got older, any type of dream I had, good or bad, became much less frequent as they were memorable. However, to this day, I'm not all too keen about ever watching Dumbo again.

I dream about the end of the world a lot as well. When I was younger, I had nightmares about tornadoes all of the time. I guess I was really afraid of being sucked into one or something. Now I have nightmares about creepy people, being lost in strange places, trying to control situations that are impossible for mortal beings to control. Things like that.

I have hallucinations as well, due to my PTSD. I'm sorry to hear that you have hallucinations, sometimes they are a real pain in the butt.

That sounds awful! Having to kill anything in a dream, being chased, being found, being killed--they are all so terrible to go through. When I am awake, I am rushing to get that adrenaline rush from being terrified, but I cannot stand it when I am awake. Thank you for telling me about this nightmare! I'll tell you one of mine that your dream reminds me of:

I have to go to a store because my friend is dying and wants something hard to drink. So I take my child, which does not exist in the real world, to the store. I am looking at some whiskey, when a strange man comes up to us. He begins telling me how cute my child is, how blonde they are, how mischievous they must be. I am pretty scared of men, so I try to pick up my kid and wander off but this guy grabs my kid from me and injects her with some sort of posion!
So I run off to the car and I am trying to drive to the hospital, but the traffic is horrible! I woke up because my child stopped breathing.

I'm sure you're not really as selfish as the dream made you out to be! Dreams make us do things we wouldn't normally do. And that fat guy is a horrible human being. I'm glad he farted on that ticket, to be honest with you. Do you think the reason the dream scared you so bad was because of the outcome?

Especially with the Shadow Man being there. Those shadow people in dreams are so freaking scary. And you may think it sounds funny, but I had a friend who had a horrible nightmare about gorillas. It is seriously the funniest dream I have ever heard of.

I used to have nightmares about the pink elephants all the time when I was little. I just think about those hollow eyes and it gives me the heebie jeebies. But I have never had a dream about them as terrifying as the one you have described. Dear Jesus. I didn't have nightmares until I was in high school, and then they never stopped. So I never had any when I was a kid!

Well, back when I was little, my nightmares were much simpler. Usually involving the classic falling in an endless void, or a serious bug infestation.
The nightmares I've been getting for the past 8 years now are something I'd rather not talk about because they're nsfw.
Let's just say they're the reason I hate the beach.

Mine are really mundane, like missing a class for all semester due to forgetting my schedule and then having to take the final.

Well I used to have sleep paralysis often due to anxiety issues but it's gotten better this year so far.
Basically what I would often see is a dark figure standing in the corner of my room and my hearing would often amplify to the point it would hurt a little, loud enough that I could hear the plumming in the walls. One time I had a nightmare that the dark figure tried to drag me into the closet. And all because of it I now feel a little uncomfortable being around closets xD

I've had more terrifying stuff happen but it's not something I want to really share publicly.

Ugh, I still get the bug infestation nightmares every once in a blue moon. I hate those! Luckily, it's been years since the last long fall dream.

One, that's a really cool concept.
Two, I very rarely dream (or at least remember my dreams) but based on how often I wake up panicked in the middle of the night and the fact that the only two dreams I remember are nightmares I assume I don't have a lot of the butterfly and rainbows crap going on.

The first one is from when I was really little, 4 or 5 I think.
I was in a sterile white room that was perfectly silent, there wasn't a lot of cover or anything and contrary to regular horror standards it was excessively bright rather than being dark.
Now silence is something that scares me more than anything in the world, I don't like it, it makes me really uncomfortable, I have to tap or hum or something if it gets below a certain noise level. So I stomped around the room for a good while just to create a little noise which probably wasn't a good idea. You know that feeling you get when something's behind you? The tingling feeling in your back that lets you know something is horribly wrong? That comes up and it's enough to make me go dead silent.
I turned just barely and catch an indistinct figure, it could clearly see me.
I took off running, ending up in a maze of white halls that all looked the same. There wasn't any furniture, I don't know why but there just wasn't.
Eventually I came to a dead end, a square room with a red table in the center.
I don't think I survived that nightmare.

The second one is from last year actually, so I was 17.
It was daytime and I was home alone I guess. Someone rang at the doorbell and through the glass I could see a tall man in a blue suit. I opened the door just a crack to tell him to go away but he cut me off, "Hello there! How're you doing today Miss?"
"I'm saved, broke and I know who I'm voting for." (Even in dreams I get pretty snarky)
"Would you like a dog?" I didn't notice it then, but save for his too-wide smile he didn't have a face.
At that point I went to close the door, "Already got one."
He had his foot in it, "Would you like a dog?"
I don't know where it came from, but the salesman produced what had to be the biggest dog I've ever seen. Something to the extent of a golden retriever but the size of a wolfhound, I swear. It didn't look threatening, but I was already very much on edge.
I managed to kick his foot out the door and slam it shut.
"Don't worry, I'll get it to you."
Now it's at this point I will explain that my front door is something to the extent of this so I can see everything through the door.
He picked the dog up and snapped it's neck with his bare hands producing this loud, wet crack. Without skipping a beat, reached in and began pulling out it's entrails through it's mouth. And then he started shoving them into my house through the mail slot.
"I'll come back later for payment."

I don't answer the door anymore, I had to check about 10 times after that to be entirely certain my door doesn't have a mail slot and I still won't go out to get the mail at night. I'm 18.

I'm really happy I don't remember what I dream about most of the time.

dying alone...., oh and a lot of my teeth falling out and waking up thinking of thank god my teeth haven't then suddenly more teeth fall out and loose then I actually wake up.

My most frequent and worst nightmares I have are the ones where i'm back in grade school. Grade school was one of the more traumatic and difficult periods of my life, so it's no wonder I have nightmares about it from time to time.

My dreams tend to be fun. So fun that when I wake up, I'm like, damn that was a cool dream, Why did it have to end?

That said, I was more prone to nightmares when I was a kid. I remember one took place in my old house involving me wandering around late at night until I find the lights on in one room. The dream ended with a skeleton looking me dead in the face as though he had been caught doing something wrong. I can't remember if it actually did anything wrong in said dream.

My "bad" dreams tend to be more mundane than scary. i.e one dream I had, I was supposed to be getting ready for school, but instead I was procrastinating the entire length of said dream almost as if I couldn't move from my spot.
