I loved Super Mario Galaxy Movie

I checked the rotten tomato score, there is a large gap between the critics and the audience. If the audience loves it so much but the critics despise it, then there must be some sort of disdain, political controversy, or just outright sabotage on the critic side. To me, audience seems more honest, I will take their words for it.

From what I heard, it doesn't have much depth but it's very cameo heavy. Critics often are looking for good stories while fans may give something a higher score because it made a reference.

I saw the first film and absolutely hated it. It crazy how a movie can get away with sloppy writing if you put a shiny IP over it.

I had a great time as well. The highlights for me are Yoshi, final battle, and Bowser's little puppet show. It's about as good as the first movie. I'd like to see it again when I have the chance.

I thought the 1st movie was alright. I don't see myself watching it again though. I think the hype came from the fact that there's not much competition. There was the crappy 90s live action movie and the weird one that never left Japan. I don't plan on seeing the Galaxy movie. The trailer looks bloated and unfocused and the reviews confirm it.

They seem more prioritized with key jingling references than the story. Which benefits the movie franchise in the long run since the audience will post free ads discussing all the easter eggs.

I watched it over the weekend with my older brother, and we both enjoyed it, with a few caveats. For both of us, the pacing was off in the second half of the movie and neither of us are the biggest fan of Peach's characterization (had this issue in the last movie as well). We enjoyed Rosalina (for the ten-fifteen minutes she was there), but I personally had issues with Bowser, the pacing, and the ending.

What I have to say overall about Bowser is that he didn't have much agency in two-thirds of the movie, and even when he did flip on the brothers, it wasn't for any clear reason so it didn't have much impact. He flip-flopped from being a friend to an enemy in the first half then kind of let Bowser Jr make decisions for him after that. I think he should've just been friendly in the first half, whether it be genuine or false, then did his heel turn after being "betrayed" (in a contrived manner) or after meeting up with his son and "dropping the act." Also, why he didn't try to break out of the mines at first chance is beyond me.

After Peach leaves when the luma shows up, the pacing kinda went downhill. I don't know why she didn't say anything when she left with Toad and only left a note. Them splitting up, Peach and Toad then Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi, and having a very unceremonious meet up did feel like a waste of time. Even if I liked the Mario, Luigi, Yoshi vs Bowser Jr fight. Peach and Toad vs Wart's minions was okay too, though I do wish Birdo showed up again after that.

The ending was fine, if not a bit lackluster. Like, what happens makes sense, I just thought there'd be a bit more to it. The final fight kind of just fizzled out and Peach not having a plan to save Rosalina and then relying on her didn't really hit for me. It did feel like the writers cared more about getting her (Peach) up there rather than figuring out how to get her (Rosalina) down.

Not enough Mario Galaxy references (according to my brother), too many Mario Odyssey references (according to me). Obviously the first one was going to do all the references it could, but this was supposed to be a Mario Galaxy movie. In my eye, the two Galaxy games were big moments in the timeline of the Mario games. Sure, they weren't Mario's first foray into 3D, but from what I remember, they were to the 2010s what Mario 64 was to the '90s. But they used enough from Odyssey, which was Mario's next biggest 3D adventure, that it begs the question what they can do for the next movie. Yea, there's a lot of Mario content out there, but are they going to go back to Sunshine? Super Mario RPG? The GBA games? Paper- Oh they might do Paper Mario. I hope they do Luigi's Mansion, but they probably won't. The only thing I' sure for the next movie is Daisy, who was in the end credits scene, and the Koopalings, because why wouldn't they? If they understand anything about escalation, the Koopalings should be next.

There are Starfox, Pikmin, Mr. Game & Watch cameos. I don't think they overstayed their welcome. Maybe Fox McCloud a bit, but he did help move the story along so no harm, no foul.

Highlights:
- Yoshi being a hungry menace
- Black and red Bowser Jr, don't know what they thought they did with his purple and green look
- Peach's parasol. That thing is indestructible.

All and all 7.5/10.

I had to wait until I watch the movie before reading this thread, and thank the heavens I did. I actually enjoyed it, I might just be a joyful person, but I laughed at the movie theater. In my opinion, the second movie was much better than the first one, like, I don't remember ever laughing in the first one. It might be due to the fact that the first movie was trying to set up for the second, and now they are setting up for the third movie. Which, I look forward to.

It's difficult to tell if people's opinion about the movie is done in good faith since a lot of people just hate Nintendo as a company. Like, people really, really wish for their downfall. I used to be a PlayStation person, but I completely moved away from that once they stopped caring about their IPs that I grew up to love. As a consumer, I felt disposable to them. Seeing how Nintendo cares about their IPs, it was like meeting a friend's parents who I can tell cared about their kids more than my parents could ever care about me type shit. Plus, I got to know my partner through their Nintendo games collection. Some games I didn't like, but understood why they liked them.

Anyway, the movie was good. I'm just happy I got to see it in theater with my partner. They enjoyed it too.

My rating would be 8/10 for story, 10/10 for animation and 4/10 for rewatch-ability. I guess that would be an average of 7/10 for the entire movie.

I enjoyed it too, especially the visuals and some of the character moments. The pacing felt a bit off in places, but overall it was still a fun watch.
