Hello!

So I’ve been wanting to try doing commissions again since it’s been 2 years since I last did them, however I’m having trouble finding clients this time!

Where can I go to find people to by my art?

Thank you (:

Commissions are difficult. you have to build a fanbase to even have some kind of lead. I've seen a lot of people work on establishing a deviant Art page or Art station. personally I don't care for deviant art. it is a older platform and very competitive but you can start there. another platform you can use to advertise is Instagram. they have promotional ads you can engage in. also I've seen people use Tik Tok to promote as well. so yea! that's all I've got.
hope it helps.

Well, this is kind of my master guide for commissions

1- Start posting work on your social media at least twice a week. You have to prove you work, you are constantly working. So an artist that only makes a drawing every 5 months won't get neither the gallery to show off nor people constantly seeing your work.
2- First have the main three: Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter.

  • In Facebook make sure to be in at least 100 art related/commissions groups and share both your work and commission price list, and whenever someone makes a post needing an artist to commission, even if there are 300 comments, comment too.
  • In Instagram try to learn the algorithm, when it's the best time to post, which hashtags, what kind of posts are the most supported by the site, if images, or reels or videos, and such.
  • On Twitter try to tweet your work and use hashtags, as well, try to participate in Art Share threads and similar.

3- If you're starting from zero, or have a very small following then think about this:
if you have 100 followers, probably none of them would pay for your work, maybe 1 if you're lucky enough. So having more people leads to more possibilities, but you need to be active on each platform, you need to engage with others, be it your viewers or fellow artists. That's not easy task and would recommend to do this ONLY if you care about making friends and have the patience for it and you have genuine interest in doing it, otherwise you'll feel that's a burden on the long term.

4- Try having other platforms as well. DeviantART is very competitive and more than using the main account, try to use the forum instead, just like here on Tapas. There people is more active and you can actually see real job offers and applications instead of just be there hoping to be seen. You can also try to have a Tumblr or other platforms such as Pixiv, be in Discord Servers and such.

In short, create, both fanart, original content, whatever, just create and have an active schedule/behavior on social media. Update with more art often, link your social media between each other so people can find you. Pay attention to all the platforms you're using. If you can't find commissions then keep creating, keep looking, be active, interact with people, try to be seen as much as possible.

My friends pay me, and I pay them for services as well since I can't make music like they can. I no longer keep friends who ask for free favors.
