I need your opinion on the progression of my comics

Okay so this is not an advertisement, i just want your opinion really bad. My comics is This

So far i've managed to make it in full colour, releasing updates in long pages equalling to around 2.5-3 pages if separated. I managed so far. But recently I've been too busy with work and I'm also going to start school sooner so I can't keep up with the demands of each update, mainly because coloured pages take too friggin long to make.

So i've been thinking, what if I switch to black and white/grayscale? It would save me time and I can also update quicker.

I was thinking this, or have the first few pages of a chapter be coloured and then grayscale/b&w for the rest.

Would it affect how I initially made my comic which is in full colour? would it break the rhythm?

Thanks so much for your opinion. I really need it as i've been thinking about this for over two weeks and I still haven't arrived at a conclusion.

Honestly, if you need to cut back on your updates or come up with a new update schedule, especially as you are settling into a new routine with school and such, your readers will understand if you need to put the comic on a hiatus for a bit or just cut back on your update frequency. Not as a jab to your numbers or anything either, but because you have a bit of smaller fanbase (>100) you actually have the upper hand of not having to worry about satisfying thousands of readers by updating consistently no matter what circumstances come your way (comic creators that have thousands of readers are often held to these higher standards and so they find it harder to go on breaks for that sort of thing).

I would love to see you stick with color - it works really well with your lineart style, and if color is something you're comfortable doing outside of the time constraints, then I'd definitely recommend going with it. Besides, I think readers would rather see you cut back an update a week (or whatever the case) than see you change the style they've come to enjoy in the first place (if I had to compare between the two options).

I see. wow thanks for the insight. Thing is I already update only once a week since it takes around 3 days to complete a page with my allotted time. I guess I'll have to stick with this eh. hmmm.

I agree with @UzukiCheverie I think you should stick with full color. I go through the same problem, and when I'm pressured I either a) tell my readers I can't update because of xyz or b) shorten the update wth a little apology.

Never be afraid to take a break or to go a little easier on yourself!

But that's just my general opinion. I'm going to read your comic now 😝

Okay so basically your art is amazing, please please keep it in full color. And yes, take breaks when needed for your comic! I'll let this comic grow a bit before I decide how I feel about it 😉

Wah thanks so much! yes i've more or less decided to keep it in colour. just not sure how much i'll be able to keep up since my buffer is slowly dying and i've been more and more busy these days.

One look at your art and I think your colors look great, you should totally keep it full color. That said, if updates are too demanding on you, maybe you could either make each update shorter or update less frequently. Quality over quantity imho. Lastly, don't be afraid to take a break if you need it! If you just keep on working full power you'll wear yourself out eventually and your comic and real life affairs may suffer! Basically, I think you should make your comic look as good as you can but don't be too hard on yourself either!

Ok let me just say I have a deep love of Mythology due to being an Archeologist and I find your comic insanely interesting, that being said Its gorgeous absolutely gorgeous If you need to cut back on updates to keep that amazing art I say go for it, Fans won't prosecute you for having a life and changing around the updating schedule and if they do then they aren't true fans. I say take the time you need not to produce it quickly but to produce it for quality

Thakn you so much, luv! I knowwwww I'm really sad that I have to choose my comic over my actual real life issues. It's annoying to even think about it. But I need pick myself up and do this. I'm just afraid that even If I rest for a bit I'll lose some readers.

Oh my god thank you so much for the kind words. I live off of these. I really appreciate it. Yes, apparently I'm not very good at managing my time esp now that it's becoming hectic but I would really want to maintain the colours. And I'm afraid to actually take a short hiatus. D:

I would say keep it in full color. Take a breather! Make a schedule, draw a buffer, just you know, relax and don't overwork yourself. My comic started out as black and white and I was turning out 10 to 15 pages every week (that's freaking insane!) but then I made the switch to color and I had to slow down to one page a week. It makes the story slower, but hey, real life happens and sometimes other things need to come first, especially when this is not your main source of income. People understand! There's no reason to overwhelm yourself over silly things.

Yes, i feel the same. Once a week is enough i think. I have to weigh this out coz even once a week tires me. Maybe I'll keep the updates shorter. current ones are equivalent to 2.5-3 standard pages.

I more or less agree with the sentiments already said. But just as a another suggestion perhaps you could come up with a schedule where you release black and white at first, to whet people's appetites for story. Then you could go back and color and update it later when you find more time? This could still end being the same total amount of work but with a bit more flexibility on allocating time. Maybe it might even give your comic some re-readability? That said your coloring is so boss that some might get turned off if its in black and white so that might be something to put on the scales as well.

Anyway, I'm in a similar boat but decided to stick with color since I'm (slightly) more interested in getting my story out than subscribers (though I too feed on compliments like a Pacman).

PS - @scullpanda you're an archaeologist?! That's friggin cool.

Ahaha I see what you mean. I've decided to just colour it but make the pages shorter like my last update. I takes me a total of 3 full days to finish one full page. I just started studying concept art and speedpainting so I'm not that fast with colouring backgrounds, but I want to keep at it as I'm also studying animation at the side. I want to make all of these things work together in the future. I guess it's a sound investment.
