A topic to both celebrate my milestone as well as drive discussion on what techniques everyone else has found successful for marketing their work.
So I don't mean to share this advice as "Spam your Tapas link on Reddit and you'll get views!" but Reddit and my main website were where I first started sharing my comics (as well as my private Facebook account, but that only drew friends and acquaintances) and it wasn't until a few months in that I decided to start publishing on Tapas and Webtoon. But I wasn't doing any cross promotion between these platforms, part of me was kind of paranoid about looking like an attention-seeking shill, but I acknowledged eventually that that's just the name of the game when you're an artist.
Eventually, one of my comics on Reddit really blew up with 23k+ upvotes (Episode 25: Facebook Friendship) and I realized I had a missed opportunity because other than posting my website in the bottom right corner of the page (which most people ignore anyway), no one really paid attention to where they can see the rest of my stuff. So, with my latest comic (episode 26: Age-Appropriate Adventuring | Anime Ages Part 1), I decided I'd put Tapas, Webtoon, and Twitter icons at the bottom of my page to let people know I'm also on those platforms. More than that, I posted a comment in my Reddit threads just saying "I'm also on Tapas, Webtoon, and Twitter" with links.
And wouldn't you know it, letting people know where to find your work actually led them to actually checking out my work and yesterday was the most activity I've seen on both my Tapas and Webtoon pages.
So that's my story. Have you guys been able to identify individual events that led to a spike in your views?
