Hey, what's up everyone? I JUST finished rewriting my novel Jade Kingdoms. It had to be done, the beginning was useless beyond comparison, so I sat down with my notes and lore guide and decided to especially overhaul the beginning. I tend to do it more often though, but this time I was able to give love to all chapters. Now I can actually write the next chapters in peace and it suits my outline more.

I may still have a fish a few things out, but I decided to take the jump and announce it on the forums too. XD

I do it often though, I jump back and forth with revisions and tinkering just to get this baby flow a little better. Its just something I do, I wonder if I'm not alone?

This is something that I am considering soon.

Not that I want a complete overhaul, but there are sections that I need to revise so they fit with the story that it is now.

May I ask what your plans are in terms of posting it, or re-posting it?

It's actually already been updated, I didn't send notifications though but I did give a heads-up on both here and my socials I was tinkering on it.

I did little bits and pieces before too, but this time I really had to do a big cleanup.

That's cool. Good for you!

I've been debating about how I would do that. Those that are 'caught up' wouldn't be behind with the new edits or anything, I just intend to enhance a few things.

An extra 50k words will do that to you, ya know? LOL.

I'll have to go check it out.

I prefer to do 3 drafts.

The first one is off-line, pretty much completed before posting.
The second is an edited version broken into chapters suitable for online consumption.
The third is an edit on a printed out version, considering all the feedback received after a few months of reading on line, and seeing how it reads... this preps the story for submissions

But i also rewrite the first chapter or two immediately, if I get feedback I like or on my own to improve the flow. I never really announce editing, etc, because why bug people?

I tend to edit as I write. Finish one chapter; then the next time I sit down, edit that one and continue with the next.

Once I am done with a book I go through the whole thing by listening to it read to me OR I read it out loud to myself. But that bugs the crap out of my family.

I wouldn't say I've ever rewritten an entire book, but I have done SUBSTANTIAL edits to the point that in essence, it is a new book.

It is a good feeling to have made something better than it was in its first incarntion.

I've sat down and revamped an entire story before. While I still go back and tweak little things like typos, I don't do major revisions anymore for the sake of my sanity. When I write, I work a scene until it feels right and go on. If a part feels wrong in reviews, I fix it. If not, I let it be. Trust your gut

You are not alone! I just redid all of Lacuna too. A huge undertaking. I hope you're proud of all the hard work you put into the edits. :grinning:

Oh absolutely! And I'm happy I'm not alone in this haha, I thought I was weird or something XD

Ooo congradulation! Good luck with it!

Yay, congrats! It always feels so good to get a story completed and rewritten. I just finished my third draft of my story Paint Me a Murder back in October. After I finish the series, I'll probably go back and edit for the fourth draft. :joy:

Aaah thank you! I can now work on the new chapters in peace as I was so unsatisfied with how it just wouldn't follow my outline, now I hope to bring better results too. And good luck with yours too!

Congratulations! I hope that the hard work and effort you spent on your novel would pay off. I wish you the best of luck with your story!

Thank you so much! I most certainly hope so too, and now I can work on my next chapters at ease :revolving_hearts:

I actually find this sort of extensive revision to be admirable. I will probably end up rewriting my current novella after I complete the draft that is up on Tapas right now. I know for certain that I will be splitting it into two different versions, one a fan-fic set in the world of Cyberpunk and the other a more whimsical original setting.

I appreciate your insight! I found myself unwilling to wait until I had the entire book completed, because I know myself. XD I always end up tinkering, and I just hope I can find a point where I can just leave it alone and say hey this is the finished product, y'all have fun now.
