If asked, why would your OC say they're not like other girls/guys?

Two of my main characters, Baul and Isador, only look like girls. They say this multiple times in the comics. My feeling in creating them as supernatural creatures is that they wouldn't be female or male, but just look like one or another to blend in. But they don't have the parts to be either. They aren't human at all.
