For me this is a question that can only be answered truthfully if/when it really happens. Most likely people who said no will change their mind in an instant once offered loads of cash by Disney. If that amount is enough to be financially free then you can spend more time in creating new IPs.

Money can maybe buy time for new projects, but it can't clean someone's conscience (generally the contrary).
There are a lot of other ethically debatable (but less so) things I would do before selling my IP to Disney if I was desperate for money. This is not about money, or amount of money.
Because this is not about not losing my IP, it's about not losing my soul

Not to call anyone out individually but if people weren't prone to selling their IPs when money was offered...Disney wouldn't be the IP collecting juggernaut that it is.

Even the original Disney, Walt, fell prey to the practice. If you're not familiar with the story of Oswald the Rabbit... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oswald_the_Lucky_Rabbit ...they eventually had to trade a HUMAN to get Walt's creation back.

That debacle is just ridiculous. Like...How the hell something like this was even allowed, and sad thing is not much has change in regards to copyright like this.

For example reaaaallly don't think you should be viable to a lawsuit for copyright for just having a pic of mickey mouse on something like a poster or something like the song "happy birthday" when is wasn't in public domain for some reason. Like no one is making money from it anyway. High time that mouse entered public domain anyway.

I like the idea of it but as we've discovered from experience now it's still a legal mess... If you can fight over specific applications of copyright to interpretation of public domain properties... You haven't changed much legally.

That doesnt sound like what public domain is supposed be. I really dont get why you can still pull cease and desist when its in the public domain, ie other creators are can use and change stuff for commercial use.

Like if stuff like this can happen, what is stopping a cease and desist being given out to any product with Dracula that doesn't strictly follow certain guidelines.

The original property, in this case the novel, can fall into the public domain and any specific details that stem from the original property are fair game.

But the Universal films are NOT fully in the public domain. So the specific visual changes they made from the novel are still protected. Like the bolts and such.

All this talk about Disney buying stuff reminds me of this satirical short story idea I've been kicking around with my friends that was a parody of Faust in which a man sells his IP Rights to Mousepehistopheles.... I was thinking of calling that story "Maust" if I ever wrote that....

I'd think whoever at disney was high but would accept given I could network and maybe even get a good paying gig in cali with the exposure or make my own company as long as I still own the rights to my IP. I couldn't give a damn how they alter it, I didn't become an animator just to throw opportunities away. Worse comes to worse I can just make a new IP or lose an IP and still have the industry connections lol
