Fueled by love and legend, a young and stubborn cat sets out on a quest to become human. Join Tycho as he learns about the world and learns about himself.

It's not about Warriors and has nothing to do with Warriors. However, I grew up reading Warriors and it has been a major influence on how I'm going about the cat movements/actions. Warrior cats was a great influence on me overall growing up and I still cherish it though I'm a bit older!

What stories/books/movies/media/etc have inspired you?

I’ll definitely check your comic out! I already really like your style from the cover

I’ve never read Warrior Cats, but I did read Wings of Fire, the author of which wrote for Warriors. I’m pretty sure the first five books single-handedly made me love dragons.

I’m also inspired by a lot of animation, cartoons and anime. Powerpuff Girls and Teen Titans (the originals) really got me to love the medium as a kid. Later on I discovered anime through a commercial for The Wind Rises when that was in theaters. I watched and learned all I could about how they made pictures moves and now I’m a huge animation nerd. I wanted to be an animator for the longest time...until I actually tried it :disappointed:

The Warrior cats series was one of my favorites growing up. I still have some of the books and read them to this day. Your cover is so adorable too, and I'm super interested just by reading your blurb. Definitely planning to check it out soon!

Major inspirations for my series were The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, and true crime documentaries. :joy: While neither stories fit into my genre, their portrayals of gangs really influenced my own stories. I'm only on book one now, but I plan to have four total in the series along with some extra spin offs.

I really like the beginning of your comic! The style is beautiful and expressive and I'm excited to see where the story goes. I also just got very excited when I saw this post because I was also a Warriors kid lol. Subbed.

I have a ton of different artistic inspirations, but my comic was definitely inspired by the intense cartoon watching phase I've been in the last few years. I like to think I bring some of the nature-magic of Hilda and the slow burn world building and character growth of Steven Universe into my story. My comic has a cute bird sidekick who is very much the fan favorite, so it has some animal lover vibes too. Check it out if you're interested!

My comic was inspired by many detective shows and books. The biggest inspiration was Detective Conan. : )

My story is kind of like... the The Twilight Zone in the style of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. A character study that examines how people cope and change told through a dark what-if scenario... told through quippy egotists who all see themselves as having the most important opinions in the (dead) world.

My major influence are from Sonic the Hedgehog TV series in the 90s (characters & worldbuilding, though evolved a lot to now). Story-wise they are from various coming-of-age/ art house movies.

Ooh I love Warrior Cats! XD Man I need to get back into reading it, I haven't read some of the later series. XD (There are a lot of books in it tho damn...)

My own comic was also inspired by a popular book series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. XD It's not a fancomic but there are some little tidbits here and there that are kinda nods to the series. I obviously don't wanna copy it lol

Aww, your comic is so cute so far! I subscribed, I'm excited to see more.

The main inspirations behind the comic I'm working on now, Blue Star Rebellion, are sci-fi series such as Cowboy Bebop and Star Trek Next Gen, along with tonal elements from series like Full Metal Alchemist. (FMA has SUCH a good mix of humour, adventure, whimsy, high stakes and dark themes. Hiromu Arakawa is a genius.)

That said, Blue Star Rebellion is actually a side story based in the broader universe of something I call The Dragonfeathers Project, the first book of which will be my next project after Blue Star is done. (I'm hoping a publisher might pick it up.) My inspirations for that are pretty broad, and are reflected in Blue Star to a large extent. Magical girl anime such as Sailor Moon are reflected in some aspects, along with TV shows such as Avatar TLA, She-Ra, and The Dragon Prince. And a huge driving influence behind the lore and the magic system is Phillip Pullman's 'His Dark Materials' trilogy. (That trilogy is a driving influence behind how I live my whole life. :joy:)

I've heard animation is its own beast, but keep trying and you will get the hang of it! No one is born knowing how to animate. Ghibli movies are my favorite and I can't say those weren't also an inspiration for my story.
I loved the original teen titans!

This might sound a bit cliche but my biggest influences for my comic TLC were Homestuck and Invader Zim

They were the primary media I watched/ read as a teenager and I started my comic when I was 16. For homestuck I liked the pixely style and thus I use a square brush to ink and shade, and use cell shading with flat colors. That comic is also what got me interested in creating a long term project

As far as Invader zim I likely picked up my thick lines style from them, and it was actually the cataliyst for the creation of my main character Yinyang! She was originally a black&white themed irken OC, then I decided to make her human disguise. I ended up liking that design better but she didn't quite look like a regular human so I decided to give her some powers to match her appearance. After that I wondered what other characters would fit alongside her and then I created a world to interact in. so if it wasn't for Invader zim my main character wouldn't exist!

I really owe it a lot to these two stories to have inspired me to be where I am today. not inly for the reasons listed above but because both inspired me to make fan art and thus helped me rapidly improve my art too so that I was ready to start tacking my comic when I did. I'm now 3 1/2 years in and i can't wait to see what comes!

If you're curious about my comic, check it out here!:

Thank you! Those are definitely things I grew up with also and everything influences us in some capacity. It's cool that you have enough content that you'll be able to make that many! I tried to click your Paint Me a Murder link in your forum bio but it's giving me a 404. Is it on Tapas?

I honestly think I see the influence coming through, your style is so fluid and expressive. It's beautiful! Looks like a professional manga!

I know there are so many! I took some time to re-read them a while ago and now there are even more out! Gotta admit though, I don't think it needs to continue. I wish series knew when to stop cause sometimes they just drag.

I just meant that as in I didn’t like to do it that much. Maybe one day I’ll try my hand at it again, but maaaan was it frustrating for me
Ghibli movies are great! I watched Castle in the Sky and Porco Rosso afterwards and those are still some of my favorite movies. Which ones do you like?

You're welcome! Hmm. That's strange. Dunno why it won't pull up. Maybe I posted the link wrong. It is on Tapas.

Honestly mood... that's a problem with a lot of book series lmfao (I've also heard the later warrior books are really bad)
