If you pitch to premium, does it have to be an existing series?

I know if you already have a premium series. You can email your editor to pitch another series.

I'm curious if they weight amount of subs since the novel threshold is 300 would it be more in your favor to have a higher sub count before pitching.

It would be preferable to have the sub count. But I know people have pitched below that and people who have pitched above it and haven't been accepted. So I think it comes down to what the novel team decides rather than hard numbers (but your chances are much better with a bit of a following)

They are talking Premium, which would be contracting with Tapas so their are different guidelines for that.

Awesome! Yeah, I started really looking carefully, and it doesn't say it has to be already in progress. So I'm guessing the numbers indicate you can commit to the workload it'd take.

I think if you've been posting for a year and have 2,000 subscribers already, chances are good as long as your pitch is really good!

In there they ask for a complete or near-complete manuscript. What if I'm not sure myself where the story will head in 100 chapters? I have approximately as much planned but beyond that it's still all subject to change.

Honestly and dont quote me on this I always thought if you're story was spilt into storylines or arcs you pitch them a complete arc and then explain where you're headed. But I know next to nothing about the pitching process.

I think someone posted a pitch outline long ago that I stumbled across but I'm honestly not a hundred percent.

I'd want to know how much you need planned out, for my first novel I have more planned out than my second novel which is intentional since I wanted to try a more broad strokes approach with my second novel and not plan everything ahead. There's been some ups and downs to that approach though.

Thank you for the reply. We'll see if anyone else replies who perhaps has personal experience in this matter. As for writing without planning, I wouldn't be able to do that. I love my foreshadowings and include some in every chapter so it's really hard to do so without planning. Especially if you want to avoid plotholes.

It takes practice. Not sure if you're familiar with the term pantser but that's more my writing style. I have some things planned out like milestones which allow me to head in a direction.

Had to google the term. I am somewhat in between. I have the main plot points and major event planned out, but I write individual chapters as I go. Never really planned what exactly I want to have in a chapter.

Yeah, I plan pretty similarly. Perhaps a little more detailed. And I love to write scenes ahead. Like I write a scene that I want in volume 2 just because I'm really looking forward to it.

You probably want to do it in the X-Men way; make a "complete standalone book" (like the first X-Men, or X-Men First Class for that matter) that technically is a full story and could be enjoyed even if it is never continued, but leaving so many plot threads unresolved and character arcs unfinished that it's just begging for a continuation. More of a TV pilot than a true novel, in that sense. It's actually kinda frowned upon to do this in some circles, but it is a good thing to keep in mind when plotting, writing, and pitching a long-term web serial.

That's kind of what I'm doing / will be doing. There will be a main issue in the first book that will be resolved, but on the way many smaller issues will emerge and even though they don't seem significant, in the following books we will unravel the whole truth.

Ah! My apologies. I believe require the sub count as a means to gague the potential of the story. If it has popularity on it's own then it stands a better chance of making a profit as Premium.

it may also be a process of weeding out stories that may not be a good fit for the bulk of the Tapas readership as well as finding those people who have developed their writing skills more.

I wouldnt say that not gave the sub count would be an automatic no, but it certainly helps!
