If your comic/novel was a movie what would it be rated?

This question has been in my mind all day so I’ll take a shot at it first.

Here is the question: If your comic/novel was a movie what would it be rated and why?

Cracking Eggs
Cracking Eggs - I think the first one would be PG at least it’s still family friendly enough around the beginning but the story gets darker as it goes on.
The Order of Benedict Ovum - It’d be PG-13 because of a reference to the illegal drug LSD as well as being a lot more darker than the first of the series.
In general I think Cracking Eggs as a series would be PG-13. It’s in a strange spot in my opinion. Cracking Eggs I at least try to go for a realistic more mature approach.

My steampunk superhero story Elsie would likely be PG as it’s leaning towards the more slapstick side of the superhero genre. There’s no blood in this series and it more relies on beautiful 19th century charm and aesthetic and the style of the physics however draws heavily from classic cartoons and is a lot more kid friendly than Cracking Eggs.

Ratings honestly confuse me, but taking an existing show with an approximately similar amount of mature themes for a reference...

Phototaxis of a Fighter would be TV-14 in Netflix's system, which I guess is roughly close to PG-13? Maybe kinda higher 'cause PoF has more swearing in it than the show I'm thinking about. R16, then?

I'd most likely scale it back to PG. I remember giving Tizoc's stick figure a drug addiction in the comic. Someone recommended that he should've gotten a CHOCOLATE addiction instead since the symptoms he has is also very similar to that. It also would've fit the Aztec motif.

I'd take out swearing from the start because I think PG movies who're like "LOOK AT ALL THE SWEAR WORDS WE SNUCK IN LOL WE'RE NOT LIKE YOUR OTHER KID FILMS!!! WE SAID HELL! WE SAID CRAP! LOOK HOW MANY TIMES WE SAID CRAP! OH LOOK NOW LOOK AT ALL THE BLEEPS WE THREW IN! WE CAN GET AWAY WITH THAT NOW! HA HA HEE HEE!" (I didn't like Puss N' Boots 2, I'm SORRY lmao).

That said, I would be blunt with the violence and try to be horrific with the imagry. I'd take the Pinnochio approach with how I talk about death and religion (the Mexican way) while also killing characters off the same way. There is a villain I'd probably want to talk to these Church members I know about to see if I should scale it back or make it more metaphorical? I dunno. I'd def want to make it more digestible for kids since my comic is more TV-14 WHILE also giving adults more to think about.

I often feel like a lot of the movies in the US are overrated, due to the weird sensibilities of Americans.

I would rate them…
Crow’s Worth: PG-13. Some violence, mild swearing, some lewd themes.

Sugar Land: PG. Mild language.

Frostpeak West: PG. Some sensitive topics. Mischief.

My first novel would be PG-13 and my second one probably R. The first one mentions torture, slaves, and violence like any typical manhwa medieval fantasy. The second one has way more violence and gore kind of like Rick and Morty or Robot Chicken. But it doesn't really focus on the gore just like those 2 shows. What I'm trying to say is that my second novel would fit perfectly in adult swim cartoon Network.

Desio Jokoa would probably be PG13 with mid-violence and mild swearing. Among other things like mention of abuse, etc.

It is similar to Supernatural, Angel, Silent Hill, and any other dark fantasy horror story. Not too violent, but it can be.

Galactiquest I could see being rated PG for the most part, PG-13 at the most. While it dips into some heavier topics like trauma, the inciting incidents are never graphic enough that a kids show/movie couldn't get away with it.

The Action Fruit Society would be rated PG if it was a movie. It’s supposed to be a somewhat kid friendly comic series.

Although the comics themselves are definitely rated PG-13 .

Kidding XD God's World is probably PG or PG-13 (heavy themes, but not much else), whereas bitwam would be R or maybe even NC-17 if adapted completely faithfully, but realistically they'd probably edit or omit That One Scene (that hasn't shown up yet) for a lower rating since it's mostly chill apart from that (though the arc containing That One Scene probably can't go lower than R while maintaining any semblance of plot integrity)

it would be pretty difficult to censor without taking away from the story.

I always assume Errant is rated PG-13, it features:

Violence, including monsters getting limbs cut off (but crucially, they're always monsters who have glowy rainbow goo or dust inside rather than blood and guts), and some bleeding and injury (minimal).
Censored swearing, and minor swears like "hell" "damn" etc.
Alcohol use.
Sexually suggestive language and situations (though they come up more later).

I tend to use stuff like The Simpsons, Steven Universe or Enter the Spider-Verse as a guideline for what's okay to include.

Mine will be a PG-13 anime movie with slightly cartoonish & more approachable 5~5.5:1 head-body-ratio character designs. And also some future scenes be toned down a notch.
