Alright, I was able to read the whole thing. Here goes:
Broadly speaking, you have a fun action adventure story with a fairly large ensemble cast. Characters are consistent in design and action, the setting is dynamic and fun and the art does a good job conveying the actions of the characters to the reader.
Like many webcomics, it’s a bit rough in the beginning. The story you want to tell is an episodic ensemble cast action adventure like Stargate – with a planet/mission of the week, usually an A and B plot, with a small amount of progression for each character each chapter. That’s a pretty good formula, but you don’t really get there until Animal Hunter Control. That gives us a fairly long intro (4 chapters) to get over before the fun begins.
I’m always harshest on the first chapter, since it’s the place where the reader decides whether to keep reading. It would have been better to have a big splash action panel of them completing a mission, with each character using their archetypal powers at the same time, then giving them just a bit of downtime where you reveal that they are the rookie team at DHC and it was a test. Then you’d have a couple pages of downtime before putting them on the new mission – AHC. Alternately, you could choose one character to make your POV character (probably Pablo) and make him your Izuku Midoriya – the character who gets things explained to them, and who shows what it’s like to live in the world before we get to DHC. Then we could meet each character one at a time and form a superhero team.
Let’s move into Character design. All the characters are distinct enough that I can tell who they are, even if they are all pretty much the same body type and presumptive age. It might have been more fun to vary the ages a bit more explicitly – Qing could be in her 30’s, Pablo could be the youngest, Perry and Ryn could both be ~22, Harrison and Amethyst could be ~28, James could be 25. As presented, they’re all roughly 18-23, it seems. Some more variety in body type would go a long way towards helping increase the dynamism of these characters. Maybe Qing is thin like her granduncle and is relatively tall, while Amethyst has a bit more mass because she uses magic instead of swords. Perry’s bishonen good looks could contrast to Harrison’s bulkier and rougher mechanic-type shape. You have seven characters – so fill out the five man band plus an extra smart guy and an extra lancer. Leaning into those archetypes would be a huge boost. Anyway, more distinct and evocative character designs would be very helpful, especially with such a large cast of characters.
The lack of diversity is more disappointing since they’re an interdimensional kitchen-sink science fantasy general purpose police/hitmen with only one human and one demi-human on the squad. They could all look like anything! They could be the guardians of the galaxy or something – show me something as wild and imaginative as the setting can provide. Instead, they all look like basic humans. Not even pointy elf ears. One change you should definitely make is making Pablo have something about him physically that sets him apart as a Tiefling. The easiest would be to do red eyes even in the black and white panels. But absolutely everyone in-universe looks at him and instantly knows he’s half-demon – the audience should too.
Side characters are fine – I like Sakura, though I wish her name was more oracular – like Sibyl or Cassandra. I don’t get the grandmaster, he seems like he ought to retire to an advisory role or something. He acts like a petulant noble who’s been forced to take this spot.
I appreciate your backgrounds – there are lots of webcomic artists that skip them or use stock assets, and you didn’t do that. The art for them was a bit rough to start but it improves over time. I also like the grey brushstrokes on everything, they’re a good signature for your style and ad some atmosphere to the otherwise background-free panels. I didn't fail to notice how you usually darken the space around the speech bubbles, that's a nice touch!
Your action is your biggest strength, I think. Once we got to the AHC chapter, I never had a hard time figuring out what was happening, who was doing what, or figuring out what the conflict was. They are engaging, well-paced, and creative without feeling spastic. They are great, and I look forward to the action sequences more with each chapter. Your effects are good, too. The oracular effect in A Resting Development was perfect.
The drama and romance bits are well-done as well. I don’t know why empath Amethyst likes awkward dork Pablo, but the moments are cute. I don't have a lot to say about it but I don't have any serious negative points, either.
The worldbuilding is generally fun and everything seems to flow alright, but there are a few key things that should have been in the first chapter but aren’t introduced until later or explained at all so far. Big ones: What is the DHC? What does it stand for, and what is its purpose? Are they military, police, freelance? How are Elementals different from humans? Why does everyone hate demons? What are the restrictions on future sight? Those questions need to be answered for the audience to understand what’s going on. The other stuff I’m fine with leaving until later. Right now I’m imagining a cross between Star Command (from the 2D Buzz Lightyear show) and XCOM for the DHC, and some clarification might be good. Are nobles a separate species? Is there hereditary monarchy somewhere? So many questions about this setting.
The planet name and sub-name in Modulating Faces for the planet was helpful, more of that might help the audience feel less lost.
Your updates are a bit scattered – I don’t mind once/month updates, but the multi-month gaps can be tough on a comic. It is good that you’ve stuck to this comic for three years. That’s a huge achievement by itself!
One thing I deeply appreciate is that you usually have two panels in a row and your panel spacing is relatively dense. I cannot express how much I appreciate not scrolling forever like most scroll comics make me do. Good use of space!
Overall this is a good read and I look forward to future developments. Like team 3, you have great potential, too.
