It's Tapas. There are a few hyper specific genres that have mass appeal on the platform and the organisation laser focusses in on them, pushing everything in it. That's why you see a flood of a lot of same-y looking stories. Furthermore, a lot of folks who start a webcomic are doing it for the clicks and the views, so they'll try to chase a trend, and use the same copy paste 3D assets from clipstudio, causing more homogenity in the available comics.
So no, it's not you, it the webcomics culture here on Tapas. Thing is, I doubt you'll find a platform that works any different.
In the end, I host my comic here not to be discovered in the algorithm, but to have a linkable website. Until I make a move to host it on a site myself, which might not bo too far off now I'm thinking about it.
