I'm thinking of doing a raffle

I'd like to do a commission raffle, where anybody who wants a commission buys a ticket and the winner gets to commission a drawing or painting or something. Would people be interested in something like that? Here are some examples of my work thus far:

If selling the tickets for real $$, watch out... That constitutes gambling and the laws can get crazy complicated with that. As a private artist, you're probably not going to get in trouble (unless you're very well known), BUT if you do, it will be ugly.

All the raffles that I have participated in were charity based and/or to raise funds for my school or some peeps in need. So, even if you don't win the prizes, you still are helping those in need with the money you spent on the raffle ticket(s).

I'm not judging here, but it seems all the money of the raffle tickets will be going to you, and only 1 or 2 peeps will get a commission, mmm something doesn't feel quite right about that for me. God forbid you are in need of money coz you have an illness or lost your house, I could understand all the money going to the artist, but since it seems that's not the case I have a moral contradiction with your system.

Maybe you could give a reward to all the peeps that participes (if you're asking money), or explain yourself better if you're planning on raising funds for something.

Yeah, selling raffle tickets doesn't seem like the most effective way to utilize a raffle. When I think raffle for my own artwork and comic, it more of a way to build hype and grow my reach online rather than looking to make a profit. My thoughts are that profits will eventually come once I find my dedicated audience that's willing to support me.

My last GiveAway/raffle was just this last January, and I used the site Gleam.io to help organize it. I gave away printed comics, downloadable PDFs of comic issues, mini comics, and even a crocheted custom character plushie from the series. And how people entered the giveaway was they'd get an entry for following on FB, Twitter, referring my comic to a friend, subscribing to Tapastic, voting on TWL, multiple entries for being a patreon patron, and visiting the giveaway page daily. This giveaway was a lot of fun for everyone, I had over 1.5k entries to the giveaway, and I gain a lot of new followers and subscribers this way.

My initial plan was to do something along the lines of a $3 ticket (probably less, actually... maybe just $1) but now I don't really think a raffle would be a good idea at all. I wasn't really thinking when I initially came up with the idea, and now that I've mulled it over (and read the other two comments) I've realized how unfair that is to the people who bought tickets and just didn't get anything. Honestly a raffle seems more like a charity kind of thing or a publicity stunt, and I'm nowhere near popular enough as an artist to draw enough funds to make any considerable contribution to any organization.

I kind of addressed your points in my response to somebody else (^^^) and you did make some good observations. I think I'll just stick to drawing crappy comics and doing the occasional commission XD
