So I've been refraining from coming here for this but it's now getting to the point that it's driving me absolutely insane.
So for the last four years - five in December - I've been stuck at the same sub count. Sometimes hitting 3.3k but I can't remember the last time I actually hit that number, it's been stuck at 3.2 - more specifically, 3,262, for as long as I can remember and I'm getting suspicious.
And it all started when I uploaded this stupid episode.
Yes, I was a part of the 2015 Winterfest alongside other great comic artists and writers such as Potoo Gryphon, Joanne Kwan, Windy, Anna Landin, Feyuca, Keiiii, and many others. It was a golden era but that's an old man rant that I will save for another day.
Obviously, the 2015 Winterfest got me a huge influx of subs due to the nature of the event and its advertising across the forums and main site. I went from like, 1.5k to 3k in a matter of days. It was great, at the time.
But since then, I haven't gone past 3,262. At first, I assumed it was due to the fact that once the event was over, people lost interest in the actual comic (which is fine, Time Gate's not for everyone lol) and unsubbed once the reading list notifications started coming in again with regular postings that didn't pertain to the event.
But it's been nearly five fucking years.
I'm not convinced that this is still just a ripple effect from that event. I've been foolishly convincing myself it had to be some domino effect for the last 4+ years but I'm putting my foot down.
Is anyone else stuck like I am? (I don't even know who I can turn to about this who's still around since that event because so many creators have 86'd this place).
Honestly I can't even believe it's been nearly half a decade, ffs. So basically a year into Time Gate's publication, which has been on Tapastic since November 2014. Its contributing episode for the 2015 Winterfest officially went up December 2015. So yeah, Time Gate's been in the same place sub-wise for 90% of its time on Tapas.
That being said, Time Gate: Reaper's traffic has gone down in the past couple years, as a fault of my own for going on hiatus for quite some time. But I know a lot of my regulars have stopped utilizing this website as well so I've been doing what I can.
The reason this is such a problem is because my sub count should by all accounts be going up. Even if it's only slowly.
Here's a monthly look of the past year of sub counts:
And the likes/comments/update schedule since April 2019 (much more consistent nowadays though with little breaks here and there to accommodate for event planning/real life/holidays/etc.):
Again, going up slowly, and a lot of the last year has been recovering from a 2 year hiatus between 2017 and late 2018/early 2019 but still stuck at the same stupid number. I'm basically losing one sub for every sub I gain and it's so on point in its timing that the number hasn't budged.
Maybe I'm answering my own question here with the hiatus that I went on (and the fact that we're all aware Tapas' trending tabs and free-to-read sections are broken in a lot of ways). But again, this has been the last 4+ years, and that hiatus didn't happen until late 2017, two years after the Tapas Winterfest episode went up. Two years is still a long time for such a ripple effect of subbing/unsubs if we account for solely pre-hiatus.
So idk if Tapas has just been automatically deactivating spam/dead accounts that had been subbed and it's just happened on par with my sub count. Maybe me making at least one sub per update is what's making the difference between 3.2 and 3.0k.
But if people were unsubbing that quickly and regularly, I feel like it would eventually outweigh the subs I've gotten, because again, it's not a lot. So I'd at least dip down from 3.2 to 3.1 at some point, but it hasn't happened. Honestly I'd be fine with it going down at this point because at least then I'd know the stupid thing works and is actually moving.
I'm hoping why y'all are seeing why I'm so frustrated here. Years ago, I accepted that it could be a Winterfest ripple effect, but after all this time it feels like I'm stuck in some looping glitch that just hasn't been spotted yet and it's quickly turning me into a batty loon.
I guess I'm just checking to see if anyone else has been having this issue. Maybe it's just a result of being a relic from 2014-era Tapas, many of my usual regulars from 2014-2017 have abandoned the site as a whole. And Time Gate just doesn't have a place in Tapas' current demographic so anyone who does happen to see and click on Time Gate for the 2 seconds it's in the Fresh page (for those that actually visit the Fresh page) doesn't feel like subbing. I honestly don't know.
It'll be five years in December. I'm so tired.
I'm gonna go upload the next batch of pages to Webtoons now
