Hi,

I joined Mastodon shortly after the Twitter fiasco that happened with Elon Musk and I surprisingly found a really cool community, with wholesome interactions. So I was wondering if anyone of you, comic artists or writers alike, also use this platform? And if you'd like to connect there?

I've been posting about my writing and also languages (because I'm learning Japanese) and the response has been great. It feels more personal and genuine than posting on Twitter or Instagram. This means there's a chance of finding readers that would really care about your stories.

Would love to find out new writers and comic artists and see how the Tapas community is doing over there!

It's actually growing fast and doesn't feel empty - my tip is to look up hashtags that interest you and follow the people who post there. There's a #writingcommunity for example which is quite active! And I'm sure there are a lot of art-related hashtags from where one can find a nice group to fit into.

I do have one, but only follow if you're 17 or older, and if you're fine with darker topics, nudity and blood/gore. I create, share and talk about that kind of stuff from time to time.

Honestly I went the lazy route and just joined the .art server since I do art stuff. The only they prefer you to do there is put CWs on NSFW and more sensitive stuff, and use alt text on images for blind people. (The latter I'm still getting used to.) Aside from the NSFW warnings the rest is 100% a strong suggestion though, someone may request you to add those, but you won't get in trouble for not doing it. The nice thing is no matter what server you're on you can follow people from different servers, so it all doesn't really matter. Also you can edit your posts so if you make a mistake, or was asked to add CWs or alt text you can do so without deleting posts.

Edit: Just remembered some folks talking about needing an invite to join .art, if you're interested in joining that server and need one let me know, I'll figure out how to send it to you!

Same as @UrMom I also went with the lazy route and just picked mastodon.world because it was generic and because my friend chose this one. I wasn't sure how topic-focused my posts on Mastodon would be so I decided this was the easiest way for me.

Also I realised it didn't matter which server I joined because I can still find and connect with other users from other servers just fine, I simply follow hashtags that interest me and... all set!

I forgot that following tags was a thing. Lol

For following people you can also just copy/paste their -blank-@mastodon.-whatever- into the search in your server, then hit follow. It may ask you for your @mastodon, but it's pretty easy once you get used to it.

I’ve been on Mastodon for several months and it’s been a great experience. It feels more personal and more laid-back not having to worry about competing with algorithms!
