I wouldn't see it as something that's nsfw in my opinion only because it's not really something that demoralizes a person physically. It's one of those sexual v violence arguments in my opinion. The best way to describe it would be like a teen sex romp gets an R rating, but a stoner movie can still pass with a PG-13. I mean if someone was looking over my shoulder and I was reading something like Confidential Confessions I don't think that person would be all that bothered vs if I was looking through by Twitter feed and another Tiffy picture popped up on my screen as I was scrolling.

I would say go the video game/television rating way of it. It's okay to reference or mention drugs, and show the use of legal drugs like tobacco (with recent changes to it, I would say marijuana could be classified the same way as tobacco; it's definitely not as taboo anymore) - but if you're showing the use of hard, illegal drugs like heroin, cocaine, meth, etc. then yes, best to put it behind a NSFW filter, or dismiss the filter and not show them being done (ex. there are shows where characters are obviously doing drugs, but they don't show the actual act onscreen so they can keep it a certain rating).

I'd say if it's very direct and explicit then yes it should be marked as NSFW... because it isn't something you would feel comfortable showing to like an 11 or 12 year old kid...
If it's just mentioned it's not a problem but to show the actual act of abusing drugs you should be careful.

If you wouldn't show the scene to your grandma, then it's NSFW. If you're "not sure," usually it's safe to say that if you have to second-guess yourself, you're better off just flagging it.

This is an interesting thread! The question I would like to ask is, how do we differentiate between drug ABUSE and drug USE? Despite being illegal in many places drug use is commonplace the world over. I think the line between use and misuse can provide some interesting material.
