Is it a good idea to sell products with my art in sites like RedBubble?

Hello, people!

I just found a website called RedBubble. You can create products in there using your illustrations. They will sell and deliver and you get part of the money (around 20%).
I would like to know if you think this is a good way to make an extra money to support your work as artist.

Hello there!!! Well, I've had a few friends telling me that it was not a great idea to use redbubble, because it has such a bad reputation, or people will steal your art. And I've been told something about they blocking your account, but keep selling your stuff. BUT I've also had a lot of people telling me that it works just fine for them, and they have never heard of such things. In my sincere opinion, I think redbubble is a good way to get started when it comes to sell your art, because there's a lot of people that go visit it, and it's so easy for them to find your stuff. I mean, there are other websites as well, like Threadless, Zazzle, Society6, and so on. But, Redbubble is cool :V .

Also, something I forgot to say. If nothing's stopping you, don't stick to one website... DO THEM ALL!!! XD But, of course... do the ones you think that suite you. Make research about them, try to learn how does the website works, and if it suites you, then do your things!! Good luck out there!!!

Redbubble is a good way to get a little bit of income off your art, yes, but I want to emphasise that it is a LITTLE bit. They take a rather large chunk. It is a nice passive income, though, because once you upload your art on it you don't have to do anything else (aside from advertising your shop).

I use Soc6 but speaking from a similar print-on-demand marketplace experience, yeah you make very little. haha.
Nowadays I don't produce much new work on it and am instead focusing on producing my own products to sell physically through Gumroad. But when I was doing Soc6 promoting and creating, I made just about $60 the two years I was somewhat invested in it.

The print-on-demand places are nice if you're selling merch you could not otherwise produce yourself (or find a place to produce it for you), like shower-curtains, phone cases, clocks, etc. BUT if you're just doing small stuff like stickers and prints, it may be worth your while printing those out yourself and selling directly to your audience. Your margins will definitely be higher.

Just reviving this thread because i am considering using sites like this and because i`m curious about how much have things changed until now (if they have changed) and to know if there are new sites and updated recomendations.

Also, do these sites require certain formats to upload the images?

I still use Redbubble--not for merch, but for other stuff--and it's nice, they have the formats clearly listed and the sizes you need, I usaully do digital pieces at 300 dpi and I try and shrink down or stretch to fit (I scan in traditional work as well and my friends who've bought my things as pencil cases and etc liked how they came out). You can put it on a lot of different stuff, too. Mugs, shirts, cases, prints, clocks for some reason. Only issue is like what's stated, you have to sell quite a few to see an income so it's very passive income. Like a very long term investment, haha. It's worth it just to have, though. It costs nothing to set up, and if you want to raise the base price to increase you're income, you're allowed to do that.
