What @toadsteroven is doing is a little different since the drawings are specifically about their comic. If you want to just post random drawings that have nothing to do with your comic, you should probably look into tumblr/ dA/ etc.
Random drawing should probably be on Tumblr or DA.That being said, as long as you specifically mention that you're just posting pictures and NOT an ongoing comic, it really shouldn't be a problem.
I don't think Tapastic is the place for image galleries. It's designed to host comics and the people here are looking for comics.

To be honest with you, it is your account. You do what you do. This does not mean you will have a gigantic slew of followers though, because people don't come here for singular drawings. However, I would and have followed people who do just drawings or post their poems on this site.

As others have said, Tapastic is more of a community for webcomics. If you are planning on doing more illustrations, or non-comic art, then I'd say it would benefit you more to be on a site like Deviantart or Tumblr.
People do it all the time tbh, some people put up an episode entirely for the cover of the chapter.
