Is saying "what the hell" considered swearing? (by Tapas' ratings?)

Or "what the hell"? What rating should it have?

And what exactly is the limit before it's mature?

I'm asking just in case.

I have my comic mature (for multiple reasons) but I would filter the pages that have swear words and people would complain about it x3 most people don't care and mature to most people involve assault, blood or nudity. Everything else is considered ok but be careful how much nakedness you show cause I've seen happy trails be flagged before

Hell generally isn't considered a swear word in any English speaking country outside the US, same with damn/goddamn. It's only considered bad because it's technically blasphemy, so it's not even shocking anywhere that's less culturally Christian.

See, coming from Britain "heck" feels more like it's own word distinct from being "the more polite version of hell". Like I can very clearly hear "oh heck" said in a Yorkshire accent in the same kind of tone as "oh wow" when you tell them something surprising. Same with phrases like "He really thought I would pay £1000 for the roof tiles? Heck, for that price I'll do it myself". It's pretty casual and doesn't feel any less or more polite than "hell".

The only time to tag mature is if it's excessive cussing. I don't think "what the hell" is a cussword

Hell would only be considered a curse if your target audience is kids under 10. Even then, most likely it won't be marked "mature". I think if a series said "What the hell" constantly, it would just end up being marked 13+ for mild cursing.

Tho it's worth noting. "Lava Chicken" is a popular song among kids which contains the line "it's tasty as hell". I guess some parents today are fine with their kids singing it. It could just be a shift in social norms and views. The word is not as shocking today as it was years ago.

Your series will not be flagged for using "what the hell".

The mature tag is mostly for series that are very sexual or violent that would fall under NSFW.

To be clear to any aspirin YouTubers, it won't actually flag you for using that word in your video, it flags you if you use it within the first 20-30 seconds of the video prob for child protection reasons of miss clicking or such, but to be fair I don't know why youd come out with a cold opening of "someone offed themselves" just seems like good idea not to do that.

The "unalive" stuff comes from tiktokers being on Youtube. You can still say "murdered" on Youtube (outside of some very gory/controversial true crime content because the combo of real+other gory details will trip it.) Youtube, though having false flags, is far from the least chill social media site in censorship terms, twitter's technically worse on paper just there's no staff to implement their rules.

@JollyMachen I wouldn't be surprised if they thought the same thing as you "i'm hearing all these tiktok people on youtube say "unalive" that probably means they know something I don't. I'm not going to risk it". And then they don't risk it, or they end up on forums asking if "hell" will get them banned. Most people don't want the consequences for breaking the rules and when the rules are so unclear and for some your livelyhood depends on it, the risk isn't worth not playing it safe.

In practice, as others have said, you can say murder just fine, and you can avoid saying it in the first couple of minutes if you want to be reaaaaally prudent.

it's good to ask, but i have to admit it's a funny cuestion, i mean of course not.
But now seeing why you think that, because of YouTube, well, YouTube isn't so restricted, is just people who dOn'T wAnt to Be Desm0oneTized, actually YouTube is very open with what you can say, maybe politic (depending the country) or insulting a person isn't so, but yeah you can say whatever you want, but you probably won't be monetized or be age restricted. (Isn't necessary to put d34TH instead of death) I saw YouTubers in years like 2012 get banned for very stupid things too, isn't a new thing
