Is spaming really worth it?

I don't spam at all. In fact, I barely advertise or promote my comics after the first few times I've been on this forum.

Whenever, I post in a thread like this or this, I always tell users to refer to my profile instead.

That way, I can stay humble and continue what I want to do without gaining much subscribers.

Well, yes. With the unorganized mess going around in the forums (too many "Share your comics" threads) and the threads not interesting me anymore, I decided to have a mod shut down my forum profile soon.

This is just for the forums and not Tapas in general.

I think the same about subs, having a caring fan base that actually reads and comments is the best thing about this web.

And it's especially good,
when author becomes reader and reader becomes author,
the joy and wonder becomes double,
and they find new details, without trouble.

No, it's not worth it (at least to me). When you could spend that same time actually interacting with the community. I see no reason to post a link to my comic every single chance I get, every single day, when I could just as easily get to know other creators here with legitimate conversations and build myself up that way. Not to mention, you're making friends that could really help you out. Even teach you.

Now, I do see a difference between an active user who just happens to also be sharing links should the opportunity arises, and a user who spams and only uses the forums to post link after link. This is a forum full of creative minds, after all. Not a bulletin board.

I'll just play devil's advocate and say that if you don't post your comic/novel at all then nobody will see it. It will just be an icon in a list of other icons. But of course don't overdo it.

Personally, from experience, getting to know other creators and possible readers through interactions in different medias, really help. Though, constantly putting up your work without at least showing summary, cover, and genres, hardly helps in what I've seen.

Instead of being one of thousand icons on the site.

Be strategic with your marketing; making an good impression on the community and the site itself can make you come a long way. Also crossposting on multiple sites can help your work reach more readers. Though. each site promotes itself differently from the other.

Spamming is hardly the answer.

First of all, @DukeOfOool I always appreciate reading your comments in these things. You never fail to surprise and entertain with the rhymes and cryptic messages.

Second, it seems like most other people have already said how I feel about it, but to restate what others have already said, yeah. You get far better readers by engaging with others, adding something to the community, and making friends. I do try to go through the "post a link to your comic" threads from time to time and pick out any new ones to skim through, but I don't think very many people do that, and I've gotten a fairly small number of followers from the times I posted to them. Most of my followers seem to have come from checking out other people's work and leaving feedback on it, or just by talking to other people around the forums.
