I currently have two story projects and I'm going to start a third one sometime soon. But the second one I'm working on, I noticed that the story seems to write itself at times. It chooses when to end a chapter, how the characters interact and who they are, it even makes sure the lore falls into place without too many plot holes. So I wanted to ask... is this happening to anyone else?

Definitely, parts of the story shift a lot because the characters just decide they don't want to follow my plot points, that they want to add parts to the story I hadn't planned, etc. it just happened with my most recent chapter I was writing like two hours ago.

The biggest released chapter where that happened is "Black Bile" where the female lead was supposed to get depressed, but instead she chose to comfort her sweetheart, and it completely turned the story's tide.

but it's happened in tons of way, the biggest over all way being the fact that my male lead's mother wasn't supposed to be a central character, but she self inserted herself in chapter two and is now the third most important character in the whole story lol.

It does all the time. Feels like I'm just the medium and the plot is being channeled from God knows where... :alien:

I had something similar happen! One character (who was only supposed to act as more of a hindrance/annoyance to the main character) got a little insight to her back story within the second chapter. It even created a section of lore that I now have to write out! Of course, the story itself isn't on Tapas, but I plan on it arriving sometime soon.

oh, so they stopped being a hindrance to the Mc, and befriended them instead?

No actually. It just shows exactly why she will continue to be a thorn in the MC's side... until...

ahhh, okay, now i'm so curious lol. In my story Hushabye Prince I have a villainess who was originally just evil, but when I developed her character more it no longer made sense for her, and as I plot pointed she decided there was a line that was 'too far' and changed her mind

I mean it makes sense. Sometimes characters just snap out of it. The story I'm talking about is a project I took up involving a fan-made Spider-Man story (completely new idea that hasn't been explore. Luckily people have liked it so I'm doing sth right.) and in it J. Jonah Jameson doesn't actually hate on SM (at least not in the present)

A police officer named Violet Watanabe. She's set out to hunt down Spider-Man following the death of her father (who was a retired captain in the police department.) during the Gang War (The lore I now have to write.)

That's actually a really good way to describe how it happens :sob:
