This is a great topic, glad to see people feel super strongly about this.
I think it's important to want to be successful in every endeavor that you partake in, but it's important for every artist to try and define for themselves what exactly "successful" means.
Over the course of the past two years, I've gotten a great chance to talk to over 1,000 creators and find out more about what they define as successful, for some it's completing a story, for others it's about making a meaningful impact on the reader, and for others it's about getting popular or famous and making money. All of these are just as valid as the others.
I remember, Feyuca joining the platform and trying out Two Cent Slice for the first time, she comes from an illustration background and wanted to do some sequential work. She measured success by how good she felt about the art, rather than how many readers she reached. At the end of the day, the number of subscribers she had was just icing on the cake.
For someone else like me, I got the chance to write the first episode of Falling. I measured success by how much Pary enjoyed the script.
I know that there are others who emphasize on getting popular, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that, we shouldn't demonize other people's definition of success. I think at the end of the day, we just want to go to sleep knowing we did our best
