Is there a market for book series about superheroes?

Hi, we're new to the forums but this seems like a very friendly place. Hoping to become a regular around here.

My sister and I have been working on a superhero story for a while now but we are already working on a sci-fi web comic. I wasn't sure about having two on going web comics at once so I thought maybe the superhero story could work as a book series. The thing is I don't know if people would want to read about superheroes when they are such a big part of comics. Would you be interested in reading stories about superheroes? Is there a book market for superheroes? Any feedback would be really appreciated!

I believe there's a book market for everything. The problem is reaching the audience.

Tapas specifically? You'd have an easier time writing a book about Boy Love or anything written in the first-person about young people drama, apparently.

Only 10% joking about that.

I see what you're saying, I guess it maybe comes down to marketing. I probably have to go looking for an audience. I don't want to write something just because I think it will be popular but maybe the right people will come along. I could at least give it a try. Thanks for the feedback!

Idk to be honest. I think you could try it out and see maybe you'd be surprised. Depending on the whole plot I'd probably read it so others might as well.

I haven't read that much superhero narrative, but I don't think it's a genre exclusive to the comic format, after all, the protosuperheroes were born in the book format (The Phantom, Zorro, John Carter, Scarlet Pimpernel). Give it a try and maybe you would be surprised.

I hadn't considered that before. It's definitely something to think about. Maybe I could check out some of those original stories. I appreciate that people would give it a chance at least.

My comic is about superheroes and it's doing fine (in my opinion) soooo... go for it!

Glad to hear about your comic! I just wasn't sure if people would want to read about superheroes in a book format compared to a comic format. Superheroes usually wear colorful costumes and have fantastic powers that work really well with the visual medium of comic books. I was worried that reading about all of these things might not translate to a book where everything has to be described with words instead of pictures. I think I'll still give it a try and see what happens.

That's alright, no harm done. It's just that between DC and Marvel along with indie publishers like here on Tapas there are so many superhero comic books but I'm not aware of many superheroes in novels. Sure there is a lot of supernatural and science fiction books but I was thinking more traditional costumed superheroes fighting monsters and super villains kind of thing and I'm not sure if people would prefer it to be a comic instead of a novel. But I see what you're saying how it comes down to the writing itself. Maybe later I can do some comic issues for fun if it gets a good response.
