But she was right about tone and that I meant it to be playfully sarcastic. I'm sorry people didn't understand my joke.
Asking for consent is always a smart move, no matter where you live. But there is a point in every artist's life where they have to stop relying on apps and start collecting their own references. They are called morgues, but in internet terminology, they are often called "inspo boards".
When I learned about lighting and shadow, we did to the "sketch a sphere with a light on it" but my professor also took us outside, so we could study how shadow affects real-life things. I doubt I would have learned that a "natural" shadow has blue tones if I didn't see it firsthand.
In every art/design class I've ever taken or heard of, the instructors stress getting your own references. Pinterest is a great tool for that. I even made morgues for my main series with sub-boards for each main character so I knew the "vibe" for each one prior to starting to write.
Maybe I shouldn't have made a sarcastic comment, but there is a time in every artist's life when they have to step out on their own and make it work. Young artists, especially young female artists, get themselves into trouble because everyone wants them to be "friendly". I am not going to sit worrying about if I'm being "friendly" enough for a random person online.
