Is Your Character a Mary Sue?

I got.... a big fat '0'! I guess it helps that Masahiro is a big ol' grump, severely scarred/crippled and also looks his age.

These tests are interesting, because they give you a hint about whether or not your characters are headed in a good direction or not - but they're not the be-all and end-all of character-creation. Masahiro probably SHOULD score higher, but the particulars of his storyline/backstory/character weren't really covered by this questionnaire.

Yeah, I noticed that too. A lot of the questions didn't really seem too relevant to the stories I tend to make, or to more "real-world" based and/or slice-of-life stories.

Aw, I kinda wanted to take the test, but almost all the questions don't seem to work with the type of character I have (my genre's slice of life/comedy, so I guess that's why). Maybe I'll remember to take the quiz next time I have a fantasy-type character ;D

Sues are definitely of some pretty hefty value, in my opinion. Especially in childrens' and young adult fiction. And especially especially for girls. In a world of idealized men in virtually any work of fiction geared towards boys, idealized women in girls' fiction (who are often modest by comparison) don't deserve all the flack they get. Plus, an Anti-Sue isn't a good thing, either.

Plus, it seems like female characters are much more likely to be accused of being "Mary-Sues" than male characters.
The general rule here would be "If this female character was a guy, would they still be a Mary Sue (or Gary-Stu or whatever the male term is)?" If not... maybe reconsider why you think so.
