The lack of real worlbuilding
The joke trash thrown out there to be spammed in libraries instead of nhentai for view$$.
The obsession with trash asian mmos game mechanics.
The poor implementation in the world of said game mechanics.
I don't think any genre should be taken seriously but isekai writers seem to hate isekai the most.

Which is fine for me! By the way I'm working on an isekai.:sweat_02:

Some of the titles are ridiculous
The plot is always the same
The pretty clothes are supposed to compensate for the lack of plot and character development

When we're not getting any info on the person before they got isekaid. I hate it.
Being hit by the truck/going to sleep playing a game to get to another world.
Appearing in the other world with a whole baggage of crucial knowledge (can be done nicely, but I don't like it most of the time).
Appearing in the most comfortable social position when MC are too wealthy to worry about anything, but also having zero duties except being married off to hot prince (oh no).
Harems.

All and all? I actually love Isekai as a genre. Not what's happening with it now though.

I guess to add on is how its become mainly a male power fantasy harem mess? Only recent one to stand out for me was Asendence of a bookworm and All endings lead to doom

The whole isekai genre itself because you can make some cool stuff with it like Coraline, Spirited Away or Alice in Wonderland... but no, just a harem anime with rpg tropes. Never change anime

I hate "Magic as Everyday Technology"

I detest when they want to make the world look like a medieval fantasy, but they don't go full on Fantasy and create stupid magical appliances or have most house have mysterious indoor plumbing that works. If you're going to go medieval, go fucking medieval. Don't create convenience for your characters, the important thing on an Isekai is putting the character in another world, not just a Disney Theme Park version of a Fantasy Setting

The stereotype that the world is just a fantasy world that lacks diversity in its world. Like if they are in a magical world and what do we have?
- Forest
- Plains
- Mountain
Wow, they are so amazing, it's not like you could do something different cause of magic. And no it's not like the animals and plants could be different from earth's fauna at all, no it's awesome to see boars and bears all over the place too. Not like you could created something random to fill their role instead. But what do I know, I can't even remember much of the Isekai animes I watch and it's not like the natural world around the story could make it more awe-spiring.

I agree. The getting a harem part always discourages me from continuing.

But I also understand that it's a different world which is why they are free to do whatever they want. For real though, I need more isekais with no harem.

People sent to a different world. Usually with magic and all that.

Edit: This is my favorite isekai series.

ISEKAI (異世界) translates as 'strange' or 'different'(異) and 'world'(世界)

Isekai is a term to mean otherworld or different world. The gimmic is a stranger in a foreign land. Normaly with a fantasy or game twist

@allenT @DelythThomasArt oh I see, thank you! so basically my comic is an isekai :joy: and which isekai ends with the harem thing? what i've seen often is that there's a female main character just for the fanservice and she's constantly abused by the MC or other characters and it is supposed to be funny... this really bothers me

Best early isekai I recomend is Escaflowne / Inuyasha XD even if its more the reverse with a lady having lots of guys but theres more to it than just...harem and power. The live action film Labyrinth could count as Isekai too

A lot of Isekais ends with them having a harem. I mean, it is a completely different world where polygamy isn't illegal as long as there is love (Especially when you're a noble.) Some isekais with a harem ending are these:

This one. Tho this is much much darker

omg if I didn't watch labyrith 29348290348 times as a teen... hahaha and Inuyasha was very fashionable in my city, everyone loved it when it came to tv. I never heard of Escalowne tho.
