Isn't it harder for a person to oppress you when you are wealthy?

I'm like saying a boss at a job can't really abuse you if you can simply get up and leave his job due to already having enough money or you can also say it is harder for a next person to act like they are better than you when you are rich???

I mean really, when a person knows that you are rich and they are not, it is harder for them to treat you like they are better than you???

That is by design. They are wealthy because they oppress you. Your boss is oppressing you by controlling your livelihood, so it’s in his class interest to keep you as poor as possible so he can extract as much wealth as possible from you. I’m pretty sure there is this famous book that talks about that, it’s called Das Kapital. Even if you don’t agree with everything in it it might be an interesting read.

A rich person has more options for retaliation than someone living paycheque to paycheque, and these options are a lot more accessible to them. Money is a great insulator from consequence.

It also happens with relationships and love. That's why romance-scams work. Or why people dont seem to be able, to leave a toxic relationship.

Its about power. The more powerful you are the harder you are to oppress.

If you dont have the right last name or social status that has that power, the best power you can do is go to the gym to level up your muscles and walk with confident posture (stomach in, chest out)

Yes. Wealthy people have more options of escape, means of retaliation. They can actually afford a lawyer and to go to trial. They can hire people to get black mail material or just pay people off.

This isnt to say that opression or discrimination can't happen.
After all no matter how wealthy you are, you still cant enter the exlusive golf club that caters to only rich white men, if you are say black or a woman. And this can make it difficult to further accumalate wealth as alot of deals go down in these places.

And while money does give you the option to say quit a job, if your trying to be the first female surgeon, and the only person willing to mentod you legitamatly is also abusive.

Cause theirs something worth staying for. (Or the consequence of leaving is to large. After all theirs always a bigger fish)

Wealth can solve alot of your problems, and give you alot of options. Gives you more power to say no and walk away with minimal consequences or an ability to deal with said conseaquences.

But it is only one part of a complex ever evolving system. And theirs alot of reasons why despite being wealthy one can experince discrimination or opression. Often not as bad as a poor person. But poverty is only one version of opression/discrimnation. Sexual orientation, gender, race, age, mental health, disabilites are a few others and they all interplag with eachother.

I don't necessarily disagree with the others here, but from the wealthy people I've known, it can be very easy to oppress them in some ways. Wealthy people (upper middle class especially) have a lot to lose, their status is often tied to their appearance and ability to adhere to byzantine informal rules of conduct, and they can be taken down by people that know how or that have other forms of power. Wealthy people often have their resources leveraged, and they are still vulnerable to all sorts of scams and nonsense that may be different from the travails of the wage class but is still stressful and challenging in their own ways.

Excluding the 0.1% class, I suppose.

If you're being oppressed by a wealthy or powerful person, excluding the very tippy top of our social pyramid, there is almost always some kind of recourse if you are a clever and capable person yourself.

What makes a person easy to oppress is the ties and responsibilities they have. It's much easier to oppress a man who needs a job to feed his family than it is to oppress a single guy who can just walk over the state line.

I think the answers would be "sorta".
I mean, you can be abused in more than one way, and not just on that job. It may also depend on whether you really wanted that job for reasons other than money.
And people will certainly feel empowered to claim they're better than you for reasons other than money. And many will even claim to be better than you because, being wealthy, you are ipso facto evil.

I'm not sure that's always true. Your livelihood almost always doesn't depend on that one person. And the boss can only control one side of the "contract" of your employment. You control the other side. Unless you let yourself feel owned by the boss, maybe. Or maybe convince yourself you can't make a go of it anywhere else. But those two things are literally you unintentionally controlling yourself in bad ways.

I think a serious discussion (and I assume this isn't meant to be that serious) would need to delve into what the parties think of & mean by "oppress" or "abuse". I think there are abuses that everyone will see as such no matter what are the feelings of the abused.
