Divorcing creator from creation is a case by case basis - Walt Disney was a scummy person that made a penthouse for his close friends in the animation studio then pretended everyone that complained was a communist, but that's one person out of an entire brand. Let's make a closer comparison - if a youtuber that's really racist and their videos have questionable content dies, I'm not going back to watch it just because they can't create new stuff.

It came from a previous thread, apparently ALL Lovecraft’s monsters are racist??? So that to me basically means that people who like the monsters but nothing else, is racist.

Regardless, you took the whole thing out of proportion and context. OP said "eldritch horror (without the racism)", not that the very concept of eldritch horror is racist. I think she meant that having stuff like "spooky black people with elder god cult researched by white person with a gun" is content that's not going to fly nowadays, and shouldn't.

I am not talking about her, I am talking about the people who spoke about the monsters and the way every monster was presented.

Monsters aren’t people, regardless of how someone chooses to interpret them.

Ahhh well of course with that, but I was specifically talking about the monsters, I never looked too deep into it or even knew there were humans in the stories.

@FatalMoonManga i actually agree with you 100%. People just thought way different back then and had different values.

If he lived and did what he did back then nowadays then sure it would be terrible according to our standards nowadays. But beating someone when they had "different views" almost 100 years ago is a bit crazy and it's a waste of time to dwell over these things.

You sound like the least informed person on the background of this topic. From only being aware of the most mainstream and popular monster of Lovecraft's writing. Now I'm not saying I'm an aficionado, I just understand the wholly racist implications of some of his writings. For example in one of his stories, there is a death cult made up of only dark skinned and ethically ambiguous people. Any conclusion of what that means is dubious at best. I feel as though it's not the monsters that make people think Lovecraft is racist, but his depiction of darker skinned people and how that relates to how closed minded and sheltered he was. Honestly, @tired_programmer asking what this topic was is understandable, because to me, it doesn't make a lot of sense.

Yea, but dude in the other thread said to take it somewhere else n that was right. I just wanted the people who spoke on those things to explain why they even went that far in the first place. A simple, hey look it up the author had some bad viewpoints would have been good. The links were helpful but I still don’t see the point.

Right. This thread isn’t directed toward anyone that wasn’t in the previous thread as people who were not would not understand why it is being brought up. I’m not a fan of Lovecraft so I never bothered to dive that deeply into the lore, horror terrors and other such things are as far as my interest leads.

Minecraft -- Lovecraft am very influential cultural figure. Of course people are gonna discuss his life. People also talk about the personal quirks of Tolkien, Poe, and Shakespeare. That just how it is. Lovecraft am mebbe quirkier than most, so more conversation happens on that front.

Also HP lovecraft was a mental case and people hated him when he was alive, it wasn't "the time period", Lovecraft was nutters and was bad mouthed back then. He was amazingly good at making enemies and if the internet existed during that time, they'd make a callout post about him.
