JPG turning the picture darker- does anyone know why?

So I'm done with a page, it looks amazing in PS... and I open it in the image gallery and it looks terribly dark. What the heck, I wonder, as I try and open the JPG file in PS... only to look fine again.

I color in CMYK and always turn my JPGs to RGB to upload them. If anyone has any clue, I'd be super thankful to hear so. For now, I'm wondering if there's anyway to callibrate PS to look exactly how it should look in the end.

Because of its wonderful compression, and the fact that I really don't need to use PNG. I work in the comic industry and we're always required to use JPGs to send pages.

It's not the JPG format; it's Photoshop. Different programs display colors differently with the same image. Unfortunately, I don't know if there's a way to force Photoshop to not use Adobe RGB and use sRGB instead.

why do you need compression? you can just break up the comic in 2 mb chunks.
i mean, i assume you're talking about tapastic. in terms of quality, png is just better.

I could go on forever about why I use JPG over PNG, but the main reasons are that a) the extra quality isn't necessary as I'm forced to change the size regardless and the quality decrease is only noticeable upon zooming and b) I need to save a LOT of space. If every JPG I have was a PNG my hard disk would already be full and c) as already previously mentioned, industry norms.

@keii4ii ahh that's too bad! It looked pretty much the same in illustrator though :/ Oh well.

well, ok, but your comics could use a little extra sharpness? I can barely read them on my computer, nevermind smartphones..

I didn't know anything about how tapastic worked when I began uploading it, but, as explained, PNG would do nothing here as the lion's share of the quality decrease is due to having to turn a rather big horizontal page to just 940 px wide :/

@keii4ii found a way. Under EDIT go to "assign profile". SRGB is listed in the work spaces

and yes, i totally agree with Jpegs over PNG's, PNG's are really a web only format (if you go to save for web) to keep your transparent background, at least that what I use for me.

Have you tried looking at it on different monitors?. Granted my monitor isn't calibrated but there isn't much difference between the two. One looks a LITTLE warmer and brighter- but not hugely different. I'm surprised changing your profile didn't help. :\ Sorry my response isn't more of a solution hopefully this will bump it up so someone else can give you a solution -hope you get it solved!

It's Tapastic itself, and judging by your latest post we have the same problem, at least with colour differences.

It looks like your images on dA were exported with the Adobe RGB colour profile, because the colours stand out more than with non-managed or sRGB profiles.

I export with Adobe RGB because it makes the colours vibrant. The pages I export looks fine on my main site but on Tapastic the colours get dulled, as if they were exported in the default sRGB, even though the exact same file displays fine on other sites.

@pixelsnplay All my monitors are callibrated, and as you can see the pages look different in tapastic and in dA >.< It's such a pain! Thanks for the help anyway!
@winglesscomic I colored the page in AdobeRGB format in PS, and then lettered it in sRGB in Illustrator, then uploaded the same jpg to both. Is there any equivalent to the Japan/American color profile difference in RGB?

Haha now I think it is time to get my monitors calibrated. If it is a Tapastic problem what about creating a separate file for here and making the colors brighter knowing that Tapastic with mute them? When you upload your file does Tapastic do a lot of compression? If so what about trying to submit smaller files that don't have to be compressed or compressed less? Sorry my suggestions are the equivalent of try restarting your computer XD I hope you get it sorted and why not try asking a few different artists here directly (those that work in color) if they have had the same problem and what kind of setup they have?
